Introductions - Hiya

I'm at that awkward stage where I'm getting too old for the sidewalk and too aggressive to keep riding Walmart bikes, so I'm trying to learn as much as possible about real cycling through talking to as many bike people as I can round up. My knowledge of any topic can be expanded-maintainance, technique, bike shopping, etc. Anything you have to tell me would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the sport man!! You'll enjoy it. If you have any Vs. threads on certain bikes, be sure to post them (even though most people hate them). Are you a Mtn. Biker or a Roadie?

Hello Olsen, it's good to see that you know that riding on the sidewalk is something that generally only younger riders do--it takes a certain amount of courage to get onto the road to ride, and it's made easier by having a mirror, for one thing.

Bike maintenance--we've got an entire forum devoted to maintaining bikes, and some of the best wrenches in the business drop by and offer helpful advice.

Technique--depends on what kind of riding you plan to do. There's a world of difference between BMX and road, road and downhill, etc.

Bike shopping--head over to the local bike shop (abbreviated as LBS), and try out as many bikes as you can. Don't worry about your budget yet, just get a feel for the bikes, and the size.

Don't forget to visit the Great Lakes regional forum to see what's going on in your area, and to ask about the best local shops.
