Stopped by Performance Bike Shop today and noticed that a lot of the lubricants have teflon added. In what way does teflon help in lubricating parts as compared to the non-teflon lubricants?

Teflon is very slick as you probably know. There are tiny particles in the lubricant which get between the moving parts and help to keep the friction between the parts down.

btw- look for generic alternatives, polytetraflourethylene, PTFE
DO NOT USE ANY TEFLON PRODUCT IN ENGINES-ESPECIALLY TURBO BOOSTED ENGINES.
Teflon is a particle and these particles have been know to damage engine parts and really mess up turbos. BUT teflon is great stuff on chains, door hinges etc.
