It was a terrific day for climbing, and one of the largest BF rides yet (if you include the SFVBC and other guests who joined us). I'm anxious to see some of the photos, since the ride broke up into sub-groups pretty quickly. The 4-5 miles to the lifts was much harder than advertised. :)

Thanks for meeting us up at Baldy Village with the gatorade powder, Mr. Beanz!

I thought you had to work? Did you go up after all?

Sitting around the house, waiting for a p1 call to come in is bad for my health ... I could hardly walk around after sitting around all day. On-call sucks!

They let me leave after 4 hours. Only worked long enough to ruin my ride. I ran home, grabbed some tools and drove up the mtn as a support vehicle. Good thing I did!:D

I'll post pics tomorrow as I left my power cord at work again! Great ride, but an out and back and out and back for me. Great group (as usual), and great post ride grub.

Cole, Nacy and Marie - sorry I wasn't there to ride back with you guys. Nacy - awesome on making it to the lifts! :)

well I got the late start this morning, pulled into a full parking lot @ 8:10am, found a spot and took about 30 minutes to get ready. Left the park at about 8:45, figured that I wouldn't see anyone til GRR homing in close to Baldy. I had shifted my seat back about 1", more of a climbing position and more aero then last time up, at first my legs had to get used to the different muscles getting pulled, Half way up 39, I started feeling good and warmed up. East fork was short and fast, no stopping at the campground, got onto Lil GMR with couple carrots on the road. Passed the first guy in the first set of turns, then passed another set about 5 minutes later. The last carrot was hauling ass, iduno who he was but day he kicked it in on the second half and opened up the gap by about 50% more, bout 1/4 mile at this point. Got closer to the top of lil GMR and kicked it up as I saw some some black and red jerseys at the intersection. Chilled for a few minutes then continued up GRR with the group, I got the OK from the legs on the second half and start upshifting through the climbs. I got to the village feeling good, rested few minutes, but the legs got cold quick as I was thinking of going to the lifts. Rode up past the trout pond, felt the dry heat and conviced myself that it wasn't worth it so I U turned back to the lodge. My ride time was about 2 1/2 hrs at this point so was about 13mph average getting there. Hung out for about 15 minutes and got restless, MTBlurker and I took off back. The downhills were FUN. Ran into ME at the top of the DH run for BIG GMR. I took her water bottle and filled it up with the 1 full one I had left. Saw the fast guys fly past and was my carrot for the DH. They had a good 1/8 mile gap on me, I was able to pass one guy easy, he was scared of the DH, and locked onto bittingducks wheel a few minutes later and passed him when it was safe. I blew two of the hairpins though, kinda scary but was able to hold my line on the exit, one went about a foot wide into the gravel. Finished up the ride in group with the fast guys, parking lot was a ZOO, traffic sucked ass. Was in traffic from Azuza all the way to Indian Truck Trail on the 15 a lil past Corona. Good 90+ minutes was spent there.

Well Mary is okay but!:D...Actually Mary is lucky to have such a good group of riders around her. I did it cause the other riders have done it in the past. Cole, Luwin and maybe a few others. Of course my support vehicle was on short notice so all I had was powdered G-ade,water and some tools. Heck, Luwin and Cole baked the night before and brought 75% of Stater Bros. and some cute kids with them!:D

I did pump up two tires, shuttle a tired rider, install a used Continental I brought along for an emergency on Maria's bike. Made sure the last guy was down from the lifts, wiped glass from his tire, carried his bike across broken glass, helped him into the potty, and waited at the park till every single rider returned from the ride, drove across GMR a few times while fighting of the motion sickness all one one Powerbar!:D

Oh,oh, not to forget, I did GMR once and happened to see Brandy up there with a couple of big jugs passing out water to everybody and anybody. I think my even grandma got her bottle topped off!:D

It is not so much that I am a tough guy but more that I didn't know a way back other than just retracing my steps. I was kinda wondering why I didn't see anybody :D

Beaner was a great help sagging and offering Gatorade and stuff. I did use his pump at the Village. Thanks for thinking of us Fred.

Cleave and I were pulled over changing a flat (well Cleave was fixing a flat I was just standing around looking goofy) and a guy pulls over and asks if we need anything including a ride. Based on his questions about our bikes, he was not a bicyclist, just a nice guy that wanted to see if he could help.

I have few photos in the map site (http://shprung.com/sfvbc/?ride=BF01#post); not many today because I ended up riding with only few. The fast group is way to fast and almost no one else climb to the ski lift. I waited and waited and end up riding with a small group in comp to the massive amount of people that came. It felt like some orgenazied century with probably more than 60 riders.

Mr. Beanz, this is me in the photo (i.e "Not sure who this guy is,but he was there! Thanked me for the pic too!")

The ski lifts part was a M.F type of a hill; and I am happy I can add it now to my resume...

Yes, Tiff that is the most wonderful descent I know. Traffic there is going to suck and as cyclists, we are going to have to be SO MUCH MORE CAREFUL.

IMO, this means:
RIDING SINGLE FILE
NO EARPLUGS
STAYING TO THE RIGHT

I'm guilty of two of the above (first and third), so I need to clean up my act. But I'm nervous someone could get seriously injured on GMR when it opens to those hot-headed motorcyclists who feel it is perfectly within their right to "clip us if we are in their way!" Yup, that is what some of them think. Be careful out there guys...please.
