Foo - Hindenburg?

OK here's your chance.
A thread in the old guys forum reminded me of the Hindenburg.

How many of you have Hindenburg stories (once or twice removed is ok) that you can share? How many of you have been to the Hindenburg memorial in Lakehurst N.J.?
I used to work in the old hanger there and visited the memorial quite a few times. So, lets see the stories.

My great aunt was there, witnessed it. Traumatized for life.

Been at the site 3 times.

As close as I can come is my great uncle was on the Akron.

six Degrees of errr, Airships

I've been to Akron, seen the huge GoodYear Hangers.

I used to walk past a little house with a small (1 ft x 1 ft) marker denoting it as Lansdowne Manor on my way to sixth grade. (he was CO of the Shenandoah on its last flight)

Interestingly, I just learned that over twice as many people died in the Akron accident, despite the fact that it used helium.

As terrible an accident as the Hindenburg was, I wish we'd, uh, get over it.

I'd love to see the skies filled with airships, zeppelins, and dirigibles. They'd be great for shorter-distance trips, and even longer-distances if you don't mind relaxing and enjoying the trip instead of stressfully trying to get there as fast as possible. Imagine if some of the people who commute an hour or two (each way) into the Bay Area each day took an airship instead.

It'd be quite a sight.

Zepplin GmbH, is still in business. Dirigibles are not their main focus but they still make some airships and fly a regular schedule of sight seeing trips. Link (http://www.zeppelinflug.de/pages/E/haupt.htm)

This thread reminds me of something I want to do but haven't done yet. Hot air balloon ride.

I used to take self tours of the hanger, multi levels and old elevator shafts. There were many parts laying around belonging to a variety of aircraft, including blimps.
When I was there, there was this lady that had an aircraft just like the one Amelia Earhart flew. She was trying to refurbush it and then recreate Amelia's flight. Never heard the end of the tale.
We also took the blimp with snoopy on it (met life) into the hanger for overhaul, it only took up a corner of the hanger.
One more point, the floor was this strange wood coated with some nonsparking material so when the maintenance men dropped tools from 200 feet high they would not spark.
By the way, there is nothing wrong with enjoying history, there is nothing to "get over". Just really interesting.
