In the June '07 Adventure Cyclist (adventurecycling.org) I just read an
absolutely delightful story and with a reference I found it online at:
http://www.bikeforest.com/cb/cb.php

Discussions of seats, police, MUPs etc. will not be the same after
reading this. Good photo at:

Does this qualify as a Tandem Recumbent?

Certainly. I've even seen a 4 man (2 x 2) recumbent go 62+ MPH in Colorado. Body by Pinaforina.

Yup. On a club ride I was following a recumbent and was puzzled:
I could see the pedals spinning without any feet. I forgot that it
was a tandem with one rider.

Some folks thought that they knew what a comfort bike is!!

BTW, last summer I saw a family riding a quint!! Just to be sure,
yes, I meant five.

The video reminds me of something that I discovered for myself, be very careful about wearing baggy shorts when riding a bent.

To be tandem, the riders should be one behind the other.

Doesn't that depend on the end tables?? And with all those
mirrors you just can't tell.

Yes, it is a tandem recumbent. There are multiple side-by-side tandem recumbents out there.

I've also seen them available for rental at trailheads.

But this is the first time I've seen one have a couch.
