Hey all you pie lovers out there! A question! My wife and I regularly ride out to a small town (23 miles out) and grab a buffalo burger or something, then ride back. The last time we were out there I noticed they had "sawdust pie" on the menu!
Always game for something new we split a piece between us! It was a mixture of chopped nuts of various kinds, scrunched up graham wafers, and a "glue" to hold it all together that was much like the honey ingredient in baclava or in those "butter tarts" you find up in Canada!
Wow, was it good, although probably contained a million calories and probably a cup or two of the wrong kind of fat, but we pedaled even faster on the home stretch to burn it off.
Didn't have a chance to ask the cook if this was a locally dreamed up pie, or well known across the country and I just hadn't run into it before.
So if you are ever touring through Sterling, ND stop and grab a hunk of sawdust pie. You won't be disappointed!
