Foo - The rabbits are eating my Mountian Pinks!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have a beautiful bed of Mountian Pinks and can't keep flowers on them. For the longest time I wondered why. Well, I finally found out. A blasted cotton tail is having them for breakfast!
Mission foosters... A solution. Family and local ordinances prevent me from blasting his ass.
Whatcha got?
Arsenic!
No, not really. Do you think it's just the one rabbit? Maybe set up one of those humane traps (the cage that slams closed), and rerelease it far away from your house.
I don't know how many there are I did see one in there one morning eating his breakfast. I shoo'd his arse out in short order.

Dang! Here I thought this thread was a disguised Bike Thread under a code name title. I'm so disappointed!http://www.countingcows.de/aerger.gif
Blood meal sort of works, but you have to keep reapplying.

There's a trick you can use with Rabbits that often works. Take Cayenne Pepper and add a lot of it to boiling water to extract the pepper oils and spray the resultant tea on the flowers after it cools.
EDIT: Just hope you don't have the rabbits that like Vindaloo Curry!

I remember hearing that the smell of moth balls will keep most herbivores out of the garden.

Funny story about that Tom.
Few years ago, my father worked with a guy who owned a Rottweiler with discipline problems. The guy was having a problem with the dog chewing his shoes up. The vet advises him to spray his shoes with cayenne pepper, to turn the dog off of them. He tries this, and comes into work the next day looking angry and dissapointed. When his co-workers ask him what's wrong, he explains the vet's solution and adds at the end, "I've got the only dog in the world who likes cayenne pepper!"
Dave's Insanity Sauce, or some other habanero based hot sauce. It keeps the deer off my roses.
Tethering an enraged weasel in the yard also works. (a rabid wino can be used as a substitute if weasels are unavailable).

enraged rabid wino weasel FTW
But then you have to find out how to get rid of it eventually. What eats drunk insane weasels?

set a cage trap, catch it, then drive some 50 miles off and let it loose.
That should be far enough to keep it form coming back.

By "drive" you mean "bike", right?
get a tape of an owl hunting call and a rabbit distress cry. play it on an endless loop at night.
Make a bunch of brownies and sprinkle "oregano" into the batter prior to baking. Eat said brownies. Soon you won't care about your mountain pinks or that damn rabbit.

Put galvanized steel mesh under the bed up the sides and over them. If the bunnies try to eat their way through they get a tummy ache. Ugly though. Wildcats, foxes, coyotes, and owls are good. House cats just get the babies. I had one of my breeding male rabbits kick my housecat over a 4 foot fence.

But I like to eat the brownies and watch the Mountian Pinks, it's cathartic.

Just get a pellet gun and go commando on the little bastids when no one's looking. Just after dark is best.
They eat your plants you eat them - a perfect organic loop, right up the food chain. And, rabbits pop out a litter about every 8 weeks. If you time it right, you can save a ton on your grocery bill in perpetuity. :D

Get some coyotes. They moved into our area and I haven't seen a rabbit in months.
Then you get some bears to get rid of the coyotes.
Then elephants to chase the bears off.
Come winter, the elephants simply freeze to death!

We have the bears but the elephants may be hard to come by.

Killer mutant ferrets
Get loads of clover and carrots. Place it near there. Let them eat on it for a few days. Soak with vodka. Take video.

Naw - rabbit season opens on July 1st around here. Been blasting and eating them for years with no ill effects. And boy-o-boy are they good on the BBQ. YUUUMMMM!!!!
I'm not going to lie to you, around here there isn't a rule on pellet guns nore a season on rabbits, so I shoot them with the pellet gun and roast them for dinner or freeze them if there are to many. May want to check out pellet gun ordinances in your area.

If you have a rack big enough, or have an xtracycle then sure. Those cage traps are pretty big.

Check the liver first. If it is spotted, do not eat it. Or so my dad told me.
