I have a Specialized Sirrus...basic model - It has 700x28c wheels/tyres.

(Wheels are Alexrims DA16 - tyres are Nimbus EX)


Can I put a 23c or less (23mm or less?) tyre straight on there, or do I have to change the wheels first?

p.s. I'm 100kg - too much weight for so smal a tyre?

If you have the same bike I have- Specialized Sirrus A1 Sport, I've gotten new tires- I upgraded to 700 x 23 tires, and I feel like the bike performs soooooo much better. I started out with the 700x 28 tires too, then went to 700x 26, then finally moved on to 700x 23. Love 'em, except I hate the Continential tires I got- that brand is too hard to get on and off when I get flats...

P.S. Oh no... I didn't change the rims at all, except I got the same size rims for my back wheel, except a really strong rear rim because I cracked the first one and I wanted a rim that would last.

If you have questions regarding tyre/rim compatibility, check Sheldon's website for a handy table.

I favor 28mm tyres for commuting and general-purpose transportation and 23mm for club or sport cycling. Yes, there is quite a difference in feel!

Ah, actually, it just made sense, based on this alexrims page (http://alexrims.com/oe/Da16.htm). Cheers! Looks like I have a 16.3mm interior rim width, which is just small enough for a 23mm to be recommended...
