General Cycling Discussion - Prayer Alert

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This is Amanda, Pete's daughter.
Please pray for my dad.
He was riding home today on his bike, and a pedestrian came by and punched him, causing him to be thrown from his bike. His helmet saved his life, but his mouth is swolen, and the surgeon is now reconstructing his top lip. His nose is skinned, but as far as I have been told (on the phone) he hasn't broken anything. (Helmets are amazing...) He is staying overnight in the hospital.
:irritated
thank you
:)
What in the heck??? Just walked up and punched?

I don't pray [and I won't insult people who don't share my belief system by saying I will], but Pete has all my sympathy in support.
I hope he'll be okay soon. What a bizarre thing to happen, though.
That is a disturbing thing to hear. We will pray for a rapid and speedy recovery.

Hi Amanda. I'm glad your Dad is OK. I'll say a prayer for him. Don't worry, he'll be fine.
I'm the guy who sent you the pictures of my little girl with the hamster. Tell your Dad Hi for me! :)
Holy macerel, I didn't see the Amanda part. I thought Pete was talking about HIS dad. Tell Pete fubar5 says hi, and I'm praying for him RIGHT now.
I'm fairly new here but I enjoy your father's posts on this forum. My thoughts will be with him.
Where do people get off?

How awful! Please keep us informed, as I will be anxiously waiting to hear that he is going to be OK.
I'll definitely say a prayer for him.
I'll say one for the person who hit him too. And hope that maybe he/she is schizophrenic or something which might somewhat excuse their behaviour.
Peace.

I call it, a "clothesline." You stick your arm out at about neck level
so that the victim coming at you is knocked backwards by their own momentum.
If a crazy person tries to "clothesline" you on your bike, NEVER put up an arm to block it. This is what happened to me and when I tried to block with my right arm, my steering jerked sharply, throwing me forward off my bike and on to my face.
The plastic surgeon at the hospital had to cut some tissue from another part of my face to "fill in" the space where some flesh was missing, under my nose. Other than that, I have some nasty road rash.
Thanks for your concern, Ridealot!
Whoever did this to me did it in front of many witnesses. I sincerely hope he is arrested and charged.
Life is hard enough without people pulling stunts like that!
So who has to pay for the surgery?
I am thanking God right now for a speedy and complete "healing" for you, Pete.
I also want to tell you what a blessing your daughter is... as I am sure you already know.

Pete, I'm praying for a speedy and complete healing for you...and justice for the offender! My thanks to Amanda for letting us know about your situation, tell her we really appreciate it. I know you must be a very proud papa, to have such a caring daughter.
As a related aside, I wish someone could update us on JonR's situation. I haven't heard from him a quite awhile. :(

Hey Pete you remember what the guy looked like? We'll all get together and come to Atlanta to look for him...lol:)
seriously, wish you a speedy recovery.
Glad to see you back on the Forum, Pete!
What a terrible thing to have happen, you have to wonder what goes on in peoples minds.
I think it was great of your daughter to let us know what was going on with you, I'm sure we are all wishing you a speedy recovery!
Pete,
I'm glad you're still with us. As bad as it sounds, it could have been much worse.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sorry Pete:
Our prayers are with you.
Was there anything at all that this idiot thought could provoke this? Is there anything that we can learn from this?
Please heal quickly and keep on riding!

Wow, Pete, that is totally unbelievable. That guy must have been completely out of his wits. I hope you have a quick recovery and don't stay off the bike too long.
They may be able to knock you down, Pete, but they can't keep you down!
Sorry to hear about your injury. I was deliberately run off the road by a motorist a few months ago, but luckily I got the license #, and had him arrested and jailed. I hope you heal quickly.

This is Peter's wife Toni. Pete is doing much better. Although when I look at him it hurts me!!
I have never seen my husband like this before. Getting the call from the police to inform you that your husband has "been in an accdient" is like the WORST!!!
ALL the xrays came back normal, however, I think his heart is the one that is going to take time to mend!
EVERYONE OUT THERE PLEASE BE CAREFUL SO YOUR WIFE DOESN'T GET THE DREADED CALL! Although is there really anything you can do to keep all the crazy, insaine, coldblooded, inhumaine people in a cage?
Sorry 'bout the spelling, It's not my strong point.
Thanks for all of you support, Pete will be fine!;) :)

Pete, what happened to you is absolutely absurd. I'm glad to hear you're okay and hope the lousy fool who did this is arrested. Maybe you should move to New Jersey there are no pedestrians here, just cars. Just kidding. Hope your scars heal quickly.

Just caught up with this thread after being away for a few days. Hope you're doing well, Pete, and thanks to your family for keeping us informed. I guess they know how all the BF'ers feel about each other.
Just don't give up on the human race, Pete, this was a one in a thousand case.
I hope those witnesses come forward, though, and whoever did this to you get what's coming to them.
Wow, what a drag! This has really upset me, I can't believe the stupidity of some people. Was this an adult?
I hope you're healing well :)

Pete, I'm really sorry that something like this has to happen...to ANYone. I think it is really cool that your family would fill every one in at BF on the details as they happen. I don't think you would recover so quickly if you didn't have such a strong family. I won't pray for your bones because they seem to be doing fine recovering without me asking for EXTRA help. Instead I'll pray for your mind so you'll be able to return to your commute without worrying about such a horrible thing happening again.
VIVE STINKY PETE! :)

Long live cyclists! ;)
Amanda and Toni and all of Pete's family,
You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I know this is just as hard for you as it is for Pete.
The BikeForums "family" is a pretty close-knit group. We are all concerned when something happens, good or bad, to a "family" member.
