badhat
rode this sunday.
cheapted a little bit, instead of riding up to estes to start at the north end of 7, i rode from fort collins to lyons and then took south st vrain up and caught the byway just south of allenspark. but from there i rode all the way to century city where my wife was waiting.
gorgeous ride, and i saw a lot of bikes out there. it was hot as hell though. this was my first time riding south st vrain, and was really impressed by how quiet and beautiful the canyon is.
The whole thing took just over 7 hours with one 5 miunute flat change, 10 minutes at peaceful valley lodge to fill up my water, and 5 minutes in nederland for the same. i'm used to doing out-and-backs where the back half of the ride is mostly downhill, so it was pretty challenging for me to be riding these steep sustained climbs 6 hours into a ride. seems like st vrain was actually the steepest section, but the whole route is something of a rollercoaster.
classic colorado ride that i'm glad i've done.
