I have a Townie 8 and my husband really likes the 8-speed internal hub. He's looking at getting a new bike for himself and wants to take a look at any other brands with 7 or 8 speed internal hubs. I've found the Breezer Uptown, Giant Cypress, Dynamic Runabout and Dynamic Richochet. Are there any others out there?
Thanks,
Laura

Bianchi Milano $650 Has the Shimano premium "red band" 8-spd Nexus hub. Also comes in black. Very cool to ride.
Trek Clyde cruiser $459 7-spd Nexus hub
Cannondale Street Premium 8-spd

Very cool. Thanks for the suggestions.

Also check out the Jamis Commuter 3.0 and the Novara Transfer.
Giant Suede DX or GX (Not sure which model) and Trek Pure Deluxe both have pedals forward design like Townie and have internal hub models available. Also, I think Giant Cypress EX or Raleigh has what you might be looking for.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. We found a local shop that carried the Bianchi Milano, the Giant Cypress and the Electra Townies. After doing some test rides, he ended up liking the feel of the Townie best. He's only had it a week, so we've just done a few neighborhood rides together - lots of fun. I was surprised at how much of a difference in rolling speed the 700c tires on my bike have versus the smaller, fatter tires (26"?) on his model. I kept having to brake to stay behind in while coasting downhill. We're looking forward to doing a beach ride together this weekend.
Thanks,
Laura

The Trek Clyde's have a poor quality stem.

Sort of off-topic, but has anyone seen an xmart bike with an internal 3 speed hub? I may have seen this in one of the sunday flyers. I'd like to buy one, maybe even used, swap out the hub from this bike to my present single speed. Thanks.

You know, you could get an old bike off Craigslist for the same purpose. If you don't want to fuss with that, 3 speed hubs (http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=10675&category=2713) aren't that expensive new.

You can get a Raleigh Superbe off eBay for around $300 or so. Less for a Sports. The Sturmey Archer hub, will with regular oiling - last forever. The main drawback is the steel wheels so upgrading them to alloy both makes the bike lighter and ride safer.
