Thank you for organizing this Asia and Travis. I had a wonderful time Saturday even though I missed the water activities. The weather was a little warm (94 degree) and humid but the scenery makes up for it. I’m sorry I didn’t say goodbye took a wrong turn and got separated on the way back. Thank your secretary for me for driving the SAG wagon. Took some pictures, I’m not gonna post names of non BF people.

Well just when you thought you missed out........another BIKE/CAMP/WATER EVENT is in the works for Labor Day Weekend !!!
Thanks to everyone that came. Cole your pictures are amazing. I was there and it didn't look that good. Efficiency thanks also for coming and taking pictures. You were like family there. I will post the few I have when I get home from work.
On day 2 after our morning bike ride that was supposed to be a recovery ride at 20 mph  I was all ready to start whining about how fast we were going and how long those hills were when we see off in the distance Cyn and Jorge who had ridden Saturday along with 2 others - John and Sally KAYAKING  to our campsite. So I was shamed into ending my whine-fest. :o
I will do a good report later but for those of you who know our friend James - he did the ride and then waterskied in his cycling clothes..........as only James would do.

The saga began on Friday July 27th. We headed over to Lake Mead to set up the campsite and bring out all the toys. I drove the jetskis with my daughter Jazzmine and one of my dogs...Jill. Travis pulled the boat and brought another one of our dogs...Jack. When I pulled up to the Marina Travis points out the flat on the trailer  no wonder I couldn't fly up those hills in the Valley of Fire. Anyhow we decide we will deal with that later. We put the jetskis in the water. I ride with Jill, Travis rides with Jack and my daughter rides alone. We drop them across from the campsite and plan to anchor them down for the night. Travis leaves us to play in the water while he goes to set up the UV screenhouses. A few minutes after he leaves it becomes windy and the sky gets a little dark. My dogs are having a good time running and swimming but my daughter notices the impending storm and begins to get a little nervous. After about an hour she is ready to go. Finally Travis comes back with the boat. I put Jack on the boat and struggle to get Jill up there since its so windy. While the boat is swaying in the waves my legs get stuck in the mud beneath and I fall. Jack then jumps off the boat thinking its a game. My daughter is about to pass out now because lightning bolts are seen off in the mountains. My husband grabs Jack by his collar and pulls him back on the boat. I put Jill on the front of the boat and she slides off back into the water :p Travis and I think it's funny but Jazzmine is in near panic mode. We finally get the dogs situated and he backs up. We decide to move the jetskis to a more enclosed cove to protect them from the wind and possibly being gone in the middle of night. The spot we pick is a great location for anchoring but again we are knee deep in mud. I fell over about 3 times. My daughter lost her sandals twice and the dogs kept jumping off the boat. The lightning is getting closer. Then Jazzmine notices the big black birds circling the area and is afraid they are going to swoop down and pick up our dogs. She's been watching too much Discovery Channel. Finally we tie 2 of the jetskis down and then get the boat anchored and Travis will walk back over to pick up the 3rd. I call for the dogs to come so we can walk back through the sand and grass to where we parked. Jack decides to go with Travis and Jazz is darn near running to the truck  After 4 hours we are back to our truck. I decide to stop by Justme's campgrounds and drop off the tent we had for Efficiency. As soon as we turned into the Valley of Fire the skies opened up. Thunder, lightning and Rain. It rained so hard that within 15 minutes the Valley was flooded like never seen before. At the bottom of every hill there was a fast moving river streaming across the road carrying huges rocks and debris. Jazzmine closed her eyes. I finally find Justme and Cheryl standing under a picnic awning seeming to enjoy this. I get out to talk to them for a few and suggest they move their camp to the hotel down the street but they decide to wait it out. The temperature dropped from 95 at the lake to 67. I was shivering in my wet bathing suit. I tried to convince them to leave and was unsuccessful so I left before I had to do CPR on my daughter. The lightning was getting close as you can see in Gene's picture to the right of his truck. I just knew that this weekend would be ruined. Forty minutes later I pull out of the valley thankful that I have a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Efficiency called as I was leaving and I told him he should definitely go to the Best Western. He said he would hook up with Gene and decide. After hanging up the phone I wondered if he had a truck. Found out the next morning - that he didn't but he made it to the hotel.

By 6am the water has cleared but there was still alot of debris across the road. We had an obstacle course bike ride for the first few miles. There was 45% humidity on Saturday add that to the temps and you get = HOT. It was a great ride and Cole made it look better with his gorgeous pictures. We planned on starting at 7am but Justme hadn't showed up yet and I was a little nervous since he decided to weather the storm the night before. Finally around 7:15 we roll. I call his cell but only get voicemail. Along the course of the ride I see Cheryl hiking and she tells me they got up late due to the storm and drying their stuff out but Gene is on his bike somewhere. There were several Justme sightings throughout the day.

After we finished the bike ride we made our way back to the Marina and did a quick change and hit the water. Let me tell you guys Efficiency is a natural. He got up on his first try. I used his camera so he has that footage  He was all over Lake Mead like a pro. Our friend Martin, Haeran (who rode tandem)and his 2 girls stayed out with us. His daughters, Victoria (15) and Tiffanie (13) did most of the ride ;) Victoria even rode all the way up to the white domes which is the highest point in the Valley. We stayed out in the water until 7pm and finally made our way down to the Best Western. We left our friends James and Virgil and some others camping by the shore.
The next morning we met at the marina for ride number 2.

During the ride Sonya would pull up to the front and ask "Where was the fire" so we would slow down.:p She is a riot to ride with. When we finally pulled into the Marina those 40 miles felt like 90 :eek:We did another quick change and who shows up but the infamous Justme :) he was getting ready to head out to Utah. We will see him again on Friday for the Desperado Dual in Panguitch this weekend. Anyhow we say our goodbyes to Efficiency because he has that long trek back to California. He was an absolute pleasure the entire weekend. He was laughing at our antics the entire time. When we got back over to our campsite I was about to go into how tired I was and blah blah blah when I see Cyn and Jorge from Saturdays ride and 2 of her friends crossing the lake in Kayaks  Then they got on board to wakeboard and ski.......amazing athletes I tell you.

As I was driving to the Valley of Fire in the rain, I saw little streams flowing across the road that I was driving through. I thought: "Deserts often have flash flood areas. Perhaps I should turn around." I had a bad feeling about it, so I turned around and took the I-15 further down to get to Overton. I was scurred.:o
Ahem.

WOW! Fantastic Asia, looks like everyone had a great time. Cole's pics along the road to White Domes through Rainbow Vista and Mouse's Tank are really great. If anyone wonders how Asia and friends develop strength, take a look at the road, particularly the first grade from the Valley of Fire visitor's center where my Garmin spiked a 30% grade with several others to follow:eek:, on the way out and back from White Domes.
Spent Monday evening and Tuesday riding Zion Canyon which is spectacular now that private vehicles have been restricted between April and October.

Gene is it raining in Utah now? and do you have more pictures? :)
Got hit with a pretty good squall last night for about an hour, otherwise intermittent T storms, usually fairly light and short lived. Coming down the canyon Monday evening there was a light rain for about 2 miles before the junction, but totally dried out over the next 2 miles to Watchman camp.
Didn't take many pictures at the Valley of Fire. Cole's were great, so I won't even try to compete with that. Took a bunch in Zion with some video I'll post after it's been edited.
