July 28-29th Las Vegas - Valley Of Fire -- Bike Ride - Wakeboard and Waterskiing Weekend
Meet: Exit 75 off I-15 North - Valley of Fire Exit. There is an Indian Casino and Gas station as soon as you get off the exit ramp. We will meet and park right past the gas pumps.
Time: Rolling sharp at 7am
Route: Out and Back Loop including a trip up to the White Domes.
Sag Support: Yes
Miles: 56
Immediately following the ride we will proceed to the Overton Marina for the 2nd half of our fun and action packed day.
Accomadation Chocies:
1. Camping - please let me know if you are camping and if you want us to supply your tent and stuff. If so it will be set up the day before.
There are only 2 overnight camp grounds in Valley of Fire (http://parks.nv.gov/pdf/VOFBrochure.pdf), both are in the Atlatl Rock loop/Beehive area west of the visitors center. The Atlatl Rock camp has showers.
2. Hotel - Best Western in Overton - closest to the marina.
Day 2 - much more of the same :)
We will ride again at 7am and cover a different area with about 40-50 miles of riding. If you want to do more...we can surely do more.
Things to bring:
Swimsuit
Long sleeved cotton white shirt - button up. Please don't bring a good quality shirt it is going to be gnarly afterwards. If you don't have an old one - you can buy one at goodwill for 1.50
Sunscreen of course
Hat and sunglasses
Watershoes - NO FLIP FLOPS PLEASE.
Coolers with whatever your heart desires: If you drink beer or alcohol that is fine. We just don't allow alcohol to be consumed on the boat.
We will bring a camping stove and all the UV Sunscreen houses and chairs. The marinas have restaurants and places to grab a quick bite.
If you are bringing children - THAT IS GREAT - just let me know they can start their fun early. Our good friend Virgil has 2 kids aged approx 9 and 10 and will be happy to give them pulls on the tube or rides on the jetskis with parental permission of course. If not they can just cruise the lake until we finish. He will meet us at the starting point to pick up any children.
MANDATORY: EVERYONE MUST WEAR A LIFE VEST regardless of your abilities while riding in the boat, on the jetskis and tubing.
Please post any questions you may have and I will be happy to answer them. Please let me know if you're coming and if you're bringing children. I want to make sure we have all the supplies necessary.
HOPE TOO SEE YOU THERE
As I stated before: for those that do not wish to camp or stay at the hotels, I have room at my house and you are more than welcome. Shoot me a PM and we will set it up. :)
We will have room for everyone. Our good friend James that some of you met doing Baldy is coming and he has a boat as well and is in on the festivities. Virgil has a boat and toys too. PLENTY OF ROOM.

For the water stuff: it's our hub :) It's where we anchor the boats and jetskiis, have the screenhouses and etc. Sit around and chit chat. All in the same vicinity. You can actually be relaxing on shore inside the UV screenhouse and watch the wakeboarders and skiiers go by. I will see if I can find some pictures to give you a better idea.
The tents are just set up a little ways back.
This is the same weekend as the Palomar bike ride ... Hmmm

A pretty lame example would be this photo of my husband - the land behind him is where the campsite would be.

OK another question from my wife. Is the campsite going to be on the grounds at Overton, with bathroom facitlies? Apparently, she doesn't like to rough it quite as much as she did in the scouts. I haven't stayed at Overton in about 10 years, so I can't remember which accomodations they had, and I don't know if that's what you meant by "camping". We went beach camping on a remote shore of Lake Mead once. Fun, but the wife doesn't want the hole-in-the-ground toilet anymore.

I would love to join you but as I told you Saturday, my daughter is coming down from St. George.
I have spent numerous weeks and weekends on Lake Powell, Lake Mojave, Lake Mead and the River. Everybody that can go should go. Being around the water, the sun, is just a great stress reliever and add the bike rides in and you will have a weekend that can't be beat.

Overton closed their facilities and moved all the houseboats in February and March of this year. It used to be great because they had a store, laundry facilities and showers and bathrooms. The water level was so low they were having too much trouble with the launch ramps and they kept having to move the houseboat dock further and further until they decided to just close it :o
Echo Bay Marina also has a hotel if you prefer that. Or if its just the restroom accomadations she is needing and wanting other than the dirt :) and bushes  she is always welcome to just ask one of us to motor her on over to echobay or take one of the jetskis and go herself.
If you guys stayed at either of the hotels - whenever she was ready to come out we could swing over to the dock and pick her or anyone up. Or you could you could swing by and get her on the jetski - just remember to take an extra vest. Verizon has good cell service out there.
Feel free to ask any more questions you have.

If you work for the government - the govt rate at the Best Western in 65 bucks. If you dont work for the govt and want the rate I can reserve the room for you......nothing but a flash of my ID so no real heartache for me :) Just let me know. ;)

Glad we chose Verizon (it seems to work in many of those remote places where others don't). I'll have to see what she thinks. She likes Vegas, so maybe we'll stay there and I can meet up for the rides and some skiing while she visits relatives or sees shows.

Sure Herbs coming...he just doesn't know it yet :p . As far as night riding I don't have any lights. I've never ridden in the dark before  Now for the heat thing........it doesnt get that hot til later in the afternoon. The hottest times of the day are between 3 and 5 pm..... If you have an extra light I could borrow I will gladly give it a shot :D However I wouldn't recommend riding through Lake Mead at night....the Valley of Fire or Overton...yes.

I know Mary has a spare light because jp has been/was using it, and Mary swears by her HID according to the hotly contested HID vs. LED dbate of recent occurrence. But I mentioned it because the Valley of Fire should be pretty well lit by a ful moon, so (fine print legal jargen: for compliance with state and local vehicle regulations) a hi intensity torch light shouldn't be necessary.

Just as an aside for anyone who might be interested and have the time, the Tuesday after I'm going up to Zion and ride the Canyon. Any company is welcome.
Then over to Panguitch via Brianhead for the Desparado Dual where I know NYG and friends will be doing the DC even though I don't see their names on the roster yet.:D :D
