Southern California - Tour de Santa Barbara Century III - Sat. 30th June

Howdy folks, from the last poll for the date of the 3rd Van Nuys to S.B. century (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=298002), it appears that Sat. 30th-June is the most favored date.

Let's follow the same route as before:

Let's plan on meeting at the same place and time. I would suggest we take a more leisurely pace which would require fewer rest-stops to wait for people. The overall time would be about the same. Those who wish to catch the 4pm train can go ahead when they get to the top of Casitas and the others can take a more leisurely pace to make the 7pm train in S.B. (or catch the 4pm train in Carpinteria).

On Sunday, for those who wants to stay the night, we can do the Gibraltar climb:

I'd really like to give this a go, but I have been tapering for a tri this weekend, so I don't know if I have enough miles in my legs to make a solid effort. I'll have to see early next week how the legs feel.

If anything, I'll ask him if him and I want to duo the ride. If anyone else wants to join thats cool(hopefully someone that knows the way other than a route slip). I remember the route somewhat but it's very hazy. I remember everything up to Balcom very clearly :)

Danno are you coming down or meeting halfway? If this ride is a no-go, I'll try to convince him to ride it with me, otherwise I might back out myself too because this is a long ride to get lost on alone.

umd may have been asking for you to re-interpret what you had said because he (and I) aren't really sure what you were saying.

what I meant to say, but didn't come out correctly...lol...was that I was going to see if he wants to ride it with me if no one else goes. In that case, it would just be the two of us. As long as we don't get too many flats, I think we should make it out alive :)

Hehe, cars just bounce off me. My knee was sore the next day but otherwise I was fine. Knee is fine now. Bike... frame is ok, everything else was replaced. I plan to do something with this ride, even if it is just ride out and meet you guys on the road. I don't know about getting down to Van Nuys first, but there is always the possibility of staying the night in Westlake (at my inlaws) and riding out in the morning. That would add another 20 or so. It will also depend on what Danno is doing about getting down there.

I think I can convince my ex-GF to drive me down early in the morning. There's a lot of shopping along the way so she'll have a blast on the drive back.

For the next few weeks I'm going to have to cut short on my Saturday rides. I need to be home during the afternoon hours, most Saturdays, to take care of things. Therefore I won't be able to make this ride.

if I don't have to work saturday night, I'm in. I won't know till friday night, so don't wait up.

Shoot! Somehow I got this weekend mixed up with the weekend after 4th-July. My father & brother's coming down to see me!!! Sorry, i'm going to have to bow out of this ride. Have fun anyway without me! :(

Well guys, since the interest in this is pretty pathetic I'm not going to be able to make a whole production of going down to do this ride. Sorry Ovo. I think it is just a bad time to get people together right now.

Well, I'm headed to Fried Chicken Land which is why my interest is so pathetic. But, if you start pedaling by 6am on Saturday morning, I bet you can make it Nashville in time to meet me as I step off the plane at 3:00pm...Central Time. :D Just think of the miles!
