Hi,
I am in the process of buying the Fuji Roubaix Pro 2003 model. It's using Reynolds 853 steel alloy tubing and I stay in a place where the humidity is very high. Can someone advise me how to prevent or minimise the corrosion that can happen please?

welcom to the forum.

First of all, you must ensure that peeled off paint is retouched right away..

Spray WD40 or equivalent Anti-rust Agents..

SEAT TUBE: remove the seat post and spray some there (do this if you have sealed BB only)..
TOP TUBE: You can spray through a small hole (juction of seattube and toptube). You have to remove the seatpost to do this.
SEATSTAYS: spray via the small hole near the junction of the seatstays and the Seattube. If there is no hole there, I'm sure you will find a hole near the rear Dropouts.
DownTube: remove the water bottle cages and spray through the holes..

Before reinserting the Seatpost, apply a thin coat of grease on it to prevent it from sticking to the seattube.

JP Weigle's frame saver works real well. You just have to rotate the frame regularly while using it as you should with any other product to insure total coating on the inside of the tubes. A teflom lube will also work better than WD40.

If the rear stays have small pinhooles, dont forget to spray framesaver inside these tubes.
Also, when the frame is new, clean it thouroughly, rinse with water and dry, then coast the frame in a few layers of car wax. Water and dirt will just drip off.

Keep the seatpost smeared with a very light film of anti-sieze or grease.

wd40 is not a good rust preventer at all.LPS3 is very good and can be found at most auto parts stores.I work in aviation and have to do a lot of corrosion prevention and we do not use wd40 at all. BTW wd40 is good for a few other things:makes a great bug and tar remover on your car, also spray on wasp, ant and other bug bites and it will relieve the pain(dont ask me why this works but it does)

Ive used WD40 on a steel bike that I have left outdoors 24/7 for 2 years in an English coastal town. The bike survived rain, snow, frost, and riding through sea-spray. The inside of the frame looks shiny new.
I used wd40 rather than frame-saver, because that was what I had, but it definately works.

I agree, wd40 is inferior compared to the frame savers.. But it does work.

I use wd40 because it was what was available at that time.. Its cheap, and you can buy them almost anywhere.

And reviving it again... has anyone used this other product: Fluid Film? It seems to prevent rusting not only fixed parts (e.g frames) but also on moving parts. Seems to be used in many industries. Let me know what you think.
