Fifty Plus (50+) - Couple of interesting numbers, to me...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

About a week or so ago, I began my third year of so-called "serious" bike riding (however, it's too much fun to be serious!). I've got about 4,500 miles under my belt now, and my stable has waxed and waned with seven different bikes.

So I'm pretty convinced I'll stick with it.

Also, I'm surprised to discover I have already put over 1/4 the number of miles on Ruby Roubiax that I have on the Cypress, a bike which I rode almost exclusively for over a year, until I got a road bike. I'm closing in quickly on 500 miles with Ruby Roubaix, and I have only 1,800 lifetime on the Cypress. I haven't even ridden the Cypress since sometime in March, except one ride in April. I rode the Trek 1500 (The Diego) throughout April, and then got Ruby Roubaix in May. So, in six weeks or so I've done 25% of a full year on the Cypress. Neat!

I still scan Craigslist for a recumbent, but thank God, there hasn't been any in a long time. :D

I have a very nice HP Velotechnik Street Machine which you probably aren't worthy of, but I would sell it to you at a fair price out of pity......shipping would be a fortune and the color is an ugly orange.

If that Cypress SX were a 17" frame, which I know it is not, I just might make you an offer for it. It is crying out to be ridden.

OK. I think 4,500 miles in three years is impressive.

Would you describe yourself as a "little each day" rider or a "go out and kill yourself on the weekend" rider?

I'm the latter but kinda wish I were the former.

More impressive are his (nearly) 4,000 BF posts in the same period. If he hadn't been fulfilling his obligation to entertain us with all those posts, think how far he might have ridden.

I think he should set a goal of a 1:1 posts:miles ratio.

Let's pick the pace with those posts, DG. That new Roubaix is going to have you typing like mad.

Can you cycle in Haiku?

You know...five miles, then 7 miles, then 5 miles?

I have decided that I have one and only one goal in my cycling life and that is to try and keep up with the Gee's. Not in number of bikes mind you, but in the sheer enjoyment factor. I'm finding I love it too.

Why are you selling that gem? I just bought a used Optima Dragon, and I'm kind of like Gee with his new road bike. I haven't ridden my beater mountain bike since. It's kind of reserved for winter riding anyway. Anyhow, I'm glad you like your Roubaix!

4500 miles, eh? That's enough to travel from San Diego to Atlanta and back again, and then up to LA and back to top it off.

Unicycle?

I do have my limits:D :D

Don't think I could ever learn to ride one of those.

It was pretty close to when Gary posted, that he had gone 3500 miles for the year, and I thought that would be something to shoot for. I'll be pretty close to that and I think I would have got that, but other things start happening like they usually do and I'll be a little short. It's really good compared to the year before though, when I had none.

Unicycle?

By definition, a unicycle is not a bicycle and therefore exempt from the requirement to have one in every stable.:p :p :p :p

Or, would you need to own 2 unicycles?

For that matter are there clubs for Tandem unicycles or recumbent unicycles?

Is there a difference between a road unicycle and an MTU

What, you don't see this as an improvement over a guy in black leather with and junkyard dog and a shotgun?

I had alternates, but they just didn't completely catch my personality.

I like it. But I liked the old one fine too. Junkyard dogs and shotguns are just part of life out here in the hills, the avatar made me think you were maybe just one of us.

He obviously needs a Treo or a Blackberry for his cycle so that he can do his posts while cycling.
