So I now have a bike I am working on turning into a commuter. So far I have turned it into a single speed and just overall cleaned it up. Here it is

Next steps are a new wheel set new cranks and dialing what gear I like best.

So any recomendations for what makes a good commuter? Lets see all the other commuter bikes.

For me, a rear rack and fenders are a must. Even if you don't plan to ride in rain you can get caught in it, and your back will sweat a lot less if you carry your stuff on the bike, not in a backpack.

1984 Trek 520 with original rack and added Axiom fenders.
