I'm no expert, but there's something very different about this physique compared to the vast, vast majority of other pro women cyclists.

Oh, Doc...

She's only 5'2". I see women of all body types, including "short and muscular" in my races.

Here's an interview with Laura (complete with arm wrestling photo) from when she had just joined the Saturn team in '02:

I totally understand that there are a lot of different body types etc., and maybe it's just a testament to the sad state of affairs in pro cycling and the inevitable questions/accusations that follow a dominant rider, but she does kinda look different from a lot of the other women racing, at least in the recent races I've seen where she stomped everyone.

It really is kinda sad, and I freely admit it. Unfortunately I've come to the harsh realization that in pro cycling one needs to question such a completely dominant performance.

As a rock climber and a woman, I would say her arms are not even that large. That is what your arms are supposed to look like, if you actually use them for more than picking up a tea cup. I'm wondering if this was posted for the misogynistic comments or for actually pointing something good out?

I know I'm not supposed to mention weight lifting in the road forums.

+1 I'm glad we live in an era where women of many different shapes, sizes, etc. can find success in life. It's not all about looking like a model out of Vogue or Elle magazine. And just because she looks "different" according to some, that shouldn't mean automatically that she is on something other than her bike.

Now after posting that, I must counter-comment that the best bicep workout I've had in the past two months was about a month ago, during a repeated sprint drill.

heaven forbid some of us judge someone by the way they look.

What's up with Rasmussen? I thought he was supposed to be a climber?
Is he:
(1) Racing clean and now has results that suck
(2) got force fed cheeseburgers by people too disgusted to look at him and now he is too fat to climb
(3) What Vino said about him was true and he really does have a threshold power of 30W but due to (2) his weight has gone from 5 kg to 10 kg so he only climbs at 3.0 W/kg instead of 6.0 W/kg ?

Awesome photos! Pozatto should model.

I am thankful though, that Rasmussen kept his jersey on and zipped all the way up.

What's up with Danielson??? Didn't he do really well last year? Is the pressure getting to him this year or is something else going on?

Also, Janez B. looks almost anorexic as Rasmussen. He (Janez) always seems to look as if he thinks very highly of himself with huge ego way to big for his body. yuck.

Fortunately, Gusez has some meat on his bones...but for guys like Rasmussen, that's probably
why he tries so hard for the KOM jersey - he certainly isn't going to get that kind of action at the beach!

Rasmussen needs to take eating lessons from Ullrich. Maybe if you got the two of them together and distributed their fat, then they would look about right.

I wasn't trying to encourage any misogynistic comments. She's been absolutely crushing the entire peloton for the past month, and her physique is quite unlike that of most of her competitors. Unfortunately, here in the real world, this often leads to some questions as to whether said physique is "enhanced." If this were a man looking like that in the pro peloton, I'm sure you'd be more than happy to add your comments about how he didn't look like a typical cyclist.

But thanks anyway for the oh-so-incorrect assumptions. The tea cup line was particularly funny.

have to know what she did before cycling. There's no point in women doping. The drugs cost more than the prize money.

ElJamoquio
06-19-07, 04:29 PM
You don't think there's plenty of doping males that don't make their money back in prizes?

DrPete
06-19-07, 04:30 PM
^^^Considering the fact that there are Cat 3 racers out there doping, I don't think the prize money is always the driving force.

Dubbayoo
06-19-07, 04:43 PM
Yes, but the Cat 3 men want to become 1's so the prize money will cover the drug costs. Women have no hope of doing that.
