Texas - Tempting the Rain Gods: Sunday morning ride anyone?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Planned Ride Date: 6/24
I don't care if I have to strap floats to my bike, I'm riding both Saturday and Sunday this week. Saturday morning will likely either be the PBA Distance Builder or the RBM 36mi ride @ 8AM.
That leaves Sunday. Who's up for a small group, relaxed pace, maybe 35-40mi. Route, pace and starting location depends on who wants to join.
EDIT
Here's the plan as I currently have it:
Start Time: 9am
Location: Richardson Bike Mart (Richardson Location, Coit & Campbell)
Distance: 20-27mi depending on who joins and how far we decide to go.
Pace: Relaxed. I'm thinking of trying out the new wheels on my heavy and comfy bike so I'm not looking to break speed records.

Man, this rain has been a major PITA. I get a new bike and can hardly ride it. Grrrr.
I'd love to Jon, but unless it's going to be in Terrel I'm out.
next week?

Darn, why do I always find these threads late. Please keep my info, and pm me if the situation comes up again. I'm always for a relaxed, 17 or so mph pace, for a 35 or 40 mi. distance. I am in Fort Worth, but could be anywhere in the metroplex with a bit of notice.

 he only posted 30 min before you did!
Jon I'm planning on the PBA M&M Sunday am ... trying to talk myself into the 100mi ride.

Ha, that is funny. Sorry, I was automatically thinking he posted this last Friday (because of the rain this past weekend). I didn't look at the date (or obviously read the entire post).:o
Edited original post to be clear about the date. ;) Right now the forecast shows a clear weekend, hopefully drying out enough that a trip down to white rock lake may be possible. I refuse to ride the trail down to the lake if it's rained within a few days due to the amount of mud that develops on the trail. (Doggus will say something about how it's not a problem with knobbies and fenders on his commuter about now)
Paniolo - what's the pace and distance of the M&M. I probably don't have the legs in me for that, but the Sunday DB ride is too late in the afternoon for the summer heat.
White Rock trail is not a problem if you are running fenders and nice 32c tires...like on my commuter!!!!
Note: I no longer run the stem 'Netherlands Style', or the foot cages, or the bottom downtube cage or the yellow stickers. Old pic.

I would be interested in a Saturday ride, early morning or mid afternoon (I may catch you next time since it is on a Sunday).
crdean - depending on distance you want to go, you're welcome to meet me where ever I decide to ride on Saturday. Just depends on how early I want to get up. RBM rides are around the corner from me, PBA requires me to get in the truck and they start the earliest!

I can keep up very well in a 25-45 mile ride (with no stopping) at about 17 mph without drafting. My training route (30 miles, flat) doesn't include hills, but I can hang pretty good. If that fits with anything you were planning to do, it might be a good ride for me. I may even have a friend come along depending on the pace (he is more in the 15 mph pace (without drafting).
I know that with group rides, the pace could be about 19 or 20, and feel like about 17. So, I guess it's relative.
Edit: I am doing the HHH 100 mi. this year, so I would be up for a challenge as well, even though I might be whipped at the end (that's what it is about, right?).

It sounds like the PBA DB ride is what you are looking for. It is well organized and it is no-drop. They normally do between 35 and 50 miles. There are two groups: DB1 14-16MPH and DB2 16-18MPH. The only bad thing is that they leave at 7:00AM.

Sounds like a nice ride, is there a website where I can get more info. on the ride. I am typically an early riser, the earlier, the better.

Thanks very much. I may check it out. Looks like it is very organized and well informed.
Yeah, I'm kinda locked out of my account at PBA website right now. Forgot my password, and the 'remember password' button doesn't want to work for me. Emailed Rusty a few days ago without any response. If anyone could kindly drop a note on the forum for Rusty that I need my log-in info emailed to me I'd appriciate it. :)

Cuda,
Count me in Sunday AM. 16-18mph sound right? Maybe your location down to WRL and around. That puts it at about 35 miles.
I can check out the trail tommorow or Thurs & let you know what it looks like.
Chris
Sounds good Chris.
After talking to the wife, I may be in for Waxahachie. Will probably be a thrusday/friday decision for me.
Updating the first post with new info...

I'll be there on Saturday morning at 9 for the RBM ride. Not sure what distance, but I'll either be on the orange Cervelo or the pearl white Centurion. Doubt there'll be two of either in the crowd. I've never met anyone in person from BF, so give me a shout if you see me.

Since we are NOT doing Whiterock Lake I may join in for this ride. Any takers on a 40-45 mile ride? Sorry guys, it's just hard for me to justify packing my bike up and driving somewhere for a 20-27 mile ride.
Depending on who comes and who wants to do what distances we can adjust the distance. Maybe the RBM 36mi route and those who just want to do 27 can wait at the caboose or head back together.
I want a cyclocross bike.

Disregard this. I'm not going to make this ride. I'm going to ride from my house and do a 50-60 mile base paced ride.

I'll be doing the DB tomorrow morning... I'll be in my shiny new Fatcyclist.com jersey (Orange & Black) on the Red & White Trek 1200. Sunday I've probably got to do solo since I really need to be somewhere else, but currently plan to depart 15th & Independence and run a 40-ish mile route 1 way to Parker, probably via Lake Forest / McKinney / New Hope.

Woke up way to early dismornin, ate something, and went back to bed. Some how in 3 hours I managed to come down with a 103.2 fever. Needless to say I feel like hell and prolly won't make it tomorrow.
Sorry to hear you're down with the nasties Stray Cat. Rest up and get to feeling better soon.
I am definately riding my Barracuda Mk.I tomorrow, so I plan to take it easy. Don't know if my legs have a run out Renner in them with only a 42/24 bail-out after today's beat down. So anyone who wants to come out and just have a relaxing easy run ride, see you at 9am.
Well, I ended up going out solo for a short ride this morning on the Barracuda Mk.I. Got out on Renner almost to the Geroge Bush Turnpike when the rear tire blew out without warning. Thankfully I was prepared this time for a tube change. I was careful not to over inflate the tube and probably had it fairly low on pressure so I carefully rode home slowly. Total time on the road, just shy of an hour. Probably about 15mi or so. Just enough to get the legs stretched out after yesterday's ride.

Too bad about the flat Cuda. At least you were able to get some riding in.
I got out and rode with some friends in Frisco. We had a very nice ride at a conversation pace. We ended up doing 30 miles. Two of the riders are fairly new so there was no hammering. My AVG HR was 123 for the entire ride. We did the RBM Frisco Saturday ride route which has some rollers and the Windhaven hill but we did them all slow and steady.
We are going to start doing this ride every Sunday. I welcome anyone who would like to come along for a Sunday recovery ride. I will probably start leaving from house to meet them in Frisco which would add another 15 miles to the ride.

well, now that I have the santa cruz built up I might have to join you guys next time
right now they're drilling a bigger hole into the seatpost clamp :o
Kevin - sounds like a plan. Next week or the week after I think Lotek and I may be trying to put together a C&V ride here in Dallas, but what ever weekend that isn't I'll certainly plan on heading up there.
The flat sucked, but at least this time I was prepared to fix it. I've only had 3 flats on the road (all of them complete blow-outs) and the last two times I've been without a spare tube.

Crap, sorry about the flat. And double sorry I had to bail out on you. I woke up around 4am and my left calf was on fire and tighter than a drum. Not sure why, I know I drank plenty of water and even some pickle juice when I got home yesterday. With my luck it'll rain all week long.
Chris
No worries Chris. Hope that calf is worked out now. My legs were feeling pretty weak on the ride and was happy just to get some light spinning done.
Kevin,
where are y'all meeting up for the sunday recovery ride?
I'm interested.

We met right over by the Superdrome yesterday. One of the guys lives in the Plantation subdivision which is basically across the street from the Superdrome. We started at 7:00AM but I am going to see if we can move it back to 7:45 so I can ride up from my house in McKinney.
sounds good as I'm about 5 miles from there.
I'll make a concerted effort to be there Sunday (weather permitting).
