I just got some new Sugoi shorts that I like. They were cheap, I think 55 bucks or so. I have some TYR shorts I bought last year and liked those too. Most true tri shorts have little to no pad so most are all the same to me. I found a lot of them have a fleece pad though which I did not like at all when trying them on. The TYR and Sugoi I have both have a regular synthetic type pad.

That may have been true for last year's model, but the 2007 version has the new anti-anal-probe armored chamois, so no worries there :-)

I have a pair of DeSoto shorts... No idea what style though...

Same here - fleece pad, good fit. They are a couple of inches shorter than typical bike shorts, so I have a pretty amusing tan line the first few times I wear them.

Pearl Isumi tri-shorts. But don't swim in the pool with them. I did and they were destroyed within a couple of months.

Doesn't that apply to all tri suits?

It *might* be less true of Desoto tri-suits; I remember a post on Slowtwitch from Emilio Desoto in which he said they use some chlorine-resistant materials in their wetsuits and trisuits.

Swimming in a pool will destroy any suit. Period. Mark it in stone. Some stand up to the abuse more than others, and some proper care can help any of them last longer.
For $20-25 I just get a regular speedo jammer suit for my pool time. I go through 2 a year and I do not take very good care of them.
I might swim in my Tri suit in the pool every now and again to get the feel down or to test it, but on a regular basis? Seems like a waste of money.

Depends on the material. My polyester RNH tri-shorts have been holding up for ~5 years now and I swim in pools a lot with them.
I second the Pearl Izumi shorts as well as not swimming in them. Lycra is bad in the pool, polyester is good.

Zoot Trifit. Super comfortable with mesh pockets on each side.
2XU elite shorts - best ever. Normally train in a pair of DeSotos. They're good, but I LOVE the 2XU shorts.
TYR jammers for the pool.
I just got a new pair of Descente xt aeros and they are DE BEST I've ever had. Sweet shorts. Raced in 'em on Sunday and they were the stuff.
Fleece-like chamois that someone mentioned earlier, though. I think it's a good 'un, though. Nice and comfy, and that's saying A LOT for tri shorts, particularly in longer races.

I'm more of a "trophy shelf" kind of guy.

Actually they, in my opinion, are the most comfortable to wear for racing. I miss the day when most of us wore briefs for racing. I have a zoot one piece suit that is good, but frankly, not as supportive as my TYR briefs.

Another vote for De Soto!
I have a pair of De Soto Tri Shorts (http://www.desotosport.com/products/product.asp?Category=Specials&ProdID=TS6), which have been working magnificently.

I don't like my Pearl Isumi tri-shorts. I find them tight and uncomfortable vs my sugoi riding shorts.
