Hey there -
Cycling is just such a great way to escape - really look forward to those weekend rides. Just had a 2,000 mile tune-up done on the tandem - a good investment since I haven't really ventured into working on it myself. I enjoyed the discussion of the pros and cons of OOP - we don't OOP but cycled past another tandem team using that pedaling style. Very few tandems in Gainesville, FL. Actually went to Birmingham, AL to buy our Santana from the Goetz team. Looking forward to reading more on long-distance and tandem cycling.

Hello TeamRowland, not much call for it in Gainesville, FL, but did you know it's possible to do mountain bike tandem riding as well?

Check into the Bicycle Mechanics forum--taking care of your own bike is not really that difficult, and saves money in the long run. Don't forget to check into the Southeast regional forum as well!

Welcome.

There is a lengthy discussion on about OOP in the Tandem forum. I stay in phase for two reasons:
– We have lots of potholes where a butt break is interesting.
– If we were OOP, I'm almost sure I would drag a pedal in low spots; in phase pedals means one less thing to consider.

However, I have put my stoker's cranks two teeth ahead of mine. That way, if/when she stops pushing abruptly at the bottom of her stroke, my knees are still pushing and therefore are at a less vulnerable point. My stokers are 11 and/or 7.
