My friend and I want to compete in at least one mtb race this summer (it will be our first), and I've been looking over goeladders' and usa cycling's websites. We're in southern california and I thought there would have been more local races around here. Are there other sources I can use to find more local, and perhaps more low-key, races scheduled in my area?

isn't there a "california" subsection of the Regions forum or something? I would ask there.
Around here, I check out Bikereg.com (where you go to register for races) and also check the websites for the mtb series that are run in the are (Root 66 and EFTA in my case). You need to find out who puts on races and get your information there.

Thanks for the bikereg.com link, that's a good one.
