So we had some rolling thunderstorms thru my area yesterday from 12-7 or so.
I get to my Ultimate Frisbee game, completely soaked, lightning and thunder all over the place, and the sissies call the game off. I mean come on, whats that about, the odds of getting hit are slim, and with all the water on the field laying out isn't going to hurt at all, and with the rain coming down you don't even have to sit out for a point to cool down, it's a win-win-win.

Till a flash flood sweeps you and your frisbee away.

Hey, squegeeboo, hope their calling off the game didn't deter you from going out and practicing your passing technique. If you don't mind playing in a storm, you surely didn't mind practicing in a little rain! :D :p

Well I tried to get someone to throw with me, but they decided that a better team building exercise would be to go out drinking.
And I'm nothing if I'm not a team player :)
Well if it makes you feel any better, I got caught in the same storm and rode home in the pelting rain from Pittsford.
And of course when I got home, the rain became a kinder gentler kinda rain - none of those big painful ramrod drops.

Funny you mention that, squegeeboo. I was just invited to my first frisbee golf game this Friday.
I sure hope it doesn't rain or anything.

Now there's a game I love, all the fun of Ultimate Frisbee, minus all the running, plus beer.

Yah, I was hauling down the big hill on Blossom and finally understood why my friends on motorcycles hate riding in the rain, never felt the sting of rain like that before, but riding in the rain was a blast...until I got home and couldn't get a hot shower or start a load of wash for my bike gear 'cause the power was out (and still is)
One of my early rides last year was during a rainstorm - but I had to go to the start spot anyway to pick up any potential riders. And the ride was in Pittsford. Nothing like walking out of the house into the rain versus having it rain on you.
And of course no on showed - people looked out of the Coal Tower restaurant as I'm letting the water drip outta my helmet - but then I felt good - was dressed right and took off - think I did another 50 miles. I seem to enjoy "extreme" bicycling for some reason ;)
And snowstorms are awesome --- virgin snow .... :)
BUT the weather is very nice today - no humidity!
Don't know if you heard - but the Little Theater is showing 24 Solo at 9 pm Thursday night, latest movie from the local guy here who made "Off Road to Athens".

Should be a great showing -- RBC and some GVCC peeps should be there - of course I'm entering with the wildguys - TourdeBar. Two years ago, before I was riding with them - I'm sitting in the theater and just before the movie started this wild horde of mainly guys in full mtb gear/lights come in --- and when I left - their trademark pile of bikes.

I'm allergic to lighting...
But think of the fields, man! Laying out is fun, but destroying the fields isn't so kosher.
(In all seriousness, though, there were a few deaths due to lightning a few years back, one at a tournament in Kentucky comes to mind, and most ultimate leagues are very aware of the dangers.)

Yeah....that's pretty much how they described it. :D

I have a Cocker Spaniel that is totally nuts about playing fetch. Throw it, it will come back to you with a look of "do it again" If I don't throw the ball or something about 10 to 15 minutes a day he threatens to report me...
He is a lot of fun with a Frisbee. He will only carry it upside down so he goes to the Frisbee, picks it up with his mouth, flips it around with his paws and then comes running back - pretty incredible. He tries to catch it, not with his mouth, but his paws - actually succeeds at timtes.

I almost caught something with my paw once...last time I visit that particular "massage parlour".

First of all it's a disc. A Frisbee is a product, and heck, not even UPA-legal.
And don't play in the lightning. That's just dumb -- even for an Ultimate player ;)
It's a fun game, and on the whole draws fun peeps. I'm best at heckling from the sidelines, though....

I only did the roads this winter, but the storms were still awsome, the drivers and co-workers couldn't believe it.
If I get out of my thursday game early enough I'll try and check out the film, been meaning to get to the Little in the near future anyways.

Yah, that was one of the reasons they gave, didn't want to destroy the fields for the rest of the season, but risking a broken ankle is half the fun. We have lightning rules, there was a big enough break to play in, if they had just waited 10 more minutes.

Thats not cool. This means you can never bring him to an Ultimate game, cause if he run's with it it's traveling, or a Golf game cause you can't move the disc from where it lands :) but it actually is pretty cool.

Wham-o does make a UPA 'approved' disc for ultimate. It's not, apparently, 'championship series approved'.

Yah, but the plastic doesn't feel right, to hard and not sticky enough, and the balance is slightly different. Discraft is the only way to go for Ultimate.
Edit: Wow, I can't believe how elitist that just sounded.
