I had forgotten about the Telo Ave. Crit Practice in Torrance. Someone reminded me about it so I went last night to check it out. It looked like 30 people pacelining around the course for 1 hour plus 5 laps at a fast pace. Does anyone here participate?

I've known about El Dorado Park Tuesday night Crit Racing in Long Beach but I've never entered because I can't hang yet. I'm going to start next week though...if I blow up, no worries, gotta start somewhere. I drove by last night after it had ended and I saw several of my club members (South Bay Wheelmen) there. I'm a noob to the club, most of them race and win every Tuesday night.

Which of you So Cal BFers are racing or go to the Telo Ave. practice?

Hey, I do Telo every week. It's a "hafta go" for me since I live like a mile and a half from it. And I'm also on SBW. Yes, Telo is freaking hard. It's been bigger than ever this year (since it was last big at least). It used to be like 50-70 guys than the last two years it's been 10-15. Now it's 30-35. Yesterday I got in the winning break of five composed of a cat. 1, a cat. 2 and two cat. 3's. The race is fast, but if you get dropped you can always wait for the pack to come around again and jump back in. We are actually doing it by laps and last night we did 30 laps.
Come on out, I suggest doing this before you do Eldo. I was doing Eldo, then started doing Telo and got hooked. Excellent fitness test. It has helped my fitness so much.

Hi,

My personal and humble preference is to do sanctioned races rather than "pickup" races. Pack riding is dangerous enough without the added factor of sketchy riders jumping into a fast pack (again IMHO).

These days there are more SBW guys and gals at Eldo than there should be -- especially in the Masters race. ;)

You can make Eldo as hard as you want and the 1/2/3 race is plenty fast. If you are just getting started with racing (which it sounds like) the 4/5 race is typically "speed appropriate" for that category. Check out the CBR web site for more info.

Hope this helps.

thanks guys. i'm obviously cat 5; i've got both a uscf license and a cbr license. i've got the race bike and the wheels, powertap and all the other crap...i just need more fast miles in my legs and more interval workouts under my belt.

i'll be at telo next tuesday and probably wait on eldo for awhile. i've got the sbw kit but i won't wear it until i race so you'll see me at telo in voler bibs and a capoforma or bergamo riding kit.

i ride a black leader LD-736R aluminum with zipp 404s.
