I was wondering if any of you folding gurus can ID this bike for sale on my local Craigslist?

Thanks,

It's an early-model Dahon judging by the truss holding up the stem. 16" wheels - not madly regarded as the best bikes from what I've heard but this is only hear-say.

Thanks,

That's all I needed to know.

Yeah, an early Dahon. See "First Official Folding Bike Thread!! :) Name Your Bike!" half way down page 14 is a photo of a beauty.

It looks like a classic 3 . I cannot see a derailluer. It could also be a single though.I Like my classic.

Thanks Bangkok. I think you are referring to my Classic 3 on that page. I just crashed it a couple of nights ago, but the bike is fine (me too). Mine works fine for commuting to work. Not too far and not too steep of hills. Mine was in our budget, and I have not been disappointed.

Are the classics worth 50 bucks or less?

My wife paid around $150 or so for mine from a LBS. I have since invested another $100 into it for panier, tires, etc... If you can get one in good working condition for $50, I would think you are doing well on the deal.

Yeah I'm two days late in replying to this tread...
As a few posters mentioned: An early Dahon with 3-spd SA hub. I think they also made them with derailers. Twitchy at higher speeds but great handling for navigating a crowded boardwalk at low speed. Between my dad and I we have 3 of them in red, blue and yellow. I think we paid $75 for all three at a garage sale.

I swapped the 13T rear sprocket with a 17T for $5 at the local used bike shop and it's become a much more ridable bike. We've done a few 15-20 mile rides comfortably but certainly not fast. Folds decently but creaks a lot (I'm 220 so I can't blame the bike too much). Good for trips to the local supermarket. I tend to get a better reaction from the staff went I stash it by the deli and grab whatever my wife sent me for. Normally I drag my full frame 60" commuter in there, festooned with racks and bags and get dirty looks.

Braking isn't so hot with the steel rims and the way the brakes are set up. Combination of factors probably. Definitely doesn't ride like a non-folder or like a newer Dahon or Swift.
