Foo - superglue on fingernail

so i was as at work today, i am on th "culinary team" where work. i was making a fruit salad, which turned out to be reallly good even though the cantelope was not to good, anyways i wass cutting the pineapple: cut off top, then bottom, then peel it, cut into four quarters, then remove core (if you don't you'll get fiber balls in your stomache) then you can cut each quarter length wise and then width wise, or the reverse way. i started out going th later way, and then decided to switch and wouldn't you know it, i cut right into my thumb. then nail has a quarter inch cut in it, and it went about an eigth of an inch into myy finger, suprisingly it stopped bleeding with in about a minute or two. When i got home i decided i needed to fix the nail or i would rip it off(in the middle of the nail) so i decided to super glue it closed, it worked surprisingly well, that s*** can be used for anything, kinda like duct tape.

Lets hope it dont get infected now.

Egad. I hope it's ok tomorrow. If there is pain and swelling under the nail, do go to ER immediatly.

Otherwise, it's probably no worse than the time I sliced off the end of my finger, found it, put it back on, went to the ER, carefully-bandaged, only to have the nurse flick the offending piece of my finger into a garbage can stating, "This is non-vascular." Hell, it was MY farknin' piece of finger! She could've at least had a moment of farkin' silence for it before flickin' it into the trash! :eek: :p

In Stevie Ray Vaughan biography, there is a story of him basically sawing a callous off a finger tip from playing too much. He superglued it back on and kept on playing.

A skin adhesive (medical super glue) was used to close the incision after my neck was bolted together. Not much of a scar now.

Wasn't super glue originally invented for use instead of stitches?

I'm pretty sure it was developed for the aircraft industry originally, but yes, it is used to stop bleeding in emergencies.

I've done cyanoacrylate (the critical ingredient in household superglues) on my fingernail before. Worked quite well.

Slightly amusingly, I just spilled some CA on my finger about half an hour ago while fixing a gym bag. Several of us learned in college you don't want to touch your fingers together when this happens...there are solvents you can buy that will help get them apart again, but it's a slightly disconcerting feeling pulling at them and hoping one doesn't get more skin from the transaction than the other.

What I've found to work well is to apply pressure to the wound with clean towel or gauze until the bleeding stops. Then glue the wound back together. The pressure also squeezes out excess blood and helps the glue stick to the flesh better. :)

On the nail, you may want to use a file and rub off the sharp edges along the cut. This will prevent it catching on clothing and peeling itself apart.

When I decided to slice my hand Mich told me to use superglue. I thought he was nuts but he nagged me so much I did it just to try. This cut bled for over nine hours. Needless to say, it worked pretty good and I have no scar! :)

There is actually a special "new skin" product that doesnt have the toxic poisons that most superglues have but does the same thing.

We call it Vetbond in the animal world.

Vega, don't worry about you fingertip anymore. I dug it out of the trash at the ER and I now keep it in a little shrine on my mantle. I used to keep a shot glass of rum and a bowl of chicken blood next to it, but after getting to know you, I now keep a shot glass of Cat Daddy and a bowl of chain lube next to it. And the candle is never allowed to burn out. Gotta go check on it now.

Superglue has been used in dentistry, and surgery for years.
And it's not anything special (other than sterilized).

BTW, nail polish remover (acetone) will break SG bonds.
