Biking in Quebec City

Hey all,
First time poster, though I've been lurking for a long time ;)

I tried the search function but didn't have much luck.

Myself and my gf are thinking of heading to Quebec City for the Canada Day long weekend (from Toronto) and might bring our bikes. We've never been (originally from overseas) and have heard only good things about the city.

In terms of cycling what it's like? Are there lots of bike routes? are they well marked? My gf has a hybrid and I have a cyclo-cross so obviously paved is preferred but not 100% necessary ;)

Any information would be really appreciated, plus any recommendations on short 40 or 50 K loops that can be done in and around the city.

From the old port, you can cycle to Montmorency falls on a bike path and further on Ste-Anne boulevard (highway with huge shoulder, very fast with tailwind) or Royale ave (old road). You can easily ride to basilique Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré.

Around île d'Orléans.

You can also take the "Cheminots" path, which goes north. The name changes for Jacques-Cartier/Portneuf trail where the pavement ends. That part is the most interesting. There's a 5$ fee for the day, 10$ for the season.

I believe there's a nice path on the south shore in Lévis. Take the ferry.

There's a bunchof nice roads north and out of town, around Tewksbury/Stoneham. Jacques-Cartier park is nice to ride. Some MTB and ridable with a cyclocross.

For hills, check out Charlevoix. Quebec City itself has some mighty steep hills between the lower and upper town.
