Bicycle Mechanics - Success!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I finally got the stupid stem out! It took a 4lb hammer and a punch thru the bottom of the fork, but it's out. I figure it'll take at least a 10 lb. hammer to get everything back together.
* For the thoroughly confused, this rant is a reference to a thread in the Vintage forum.
I hope you'll try to ream it and polish the steerer tube with some emory cloth to remove the rust before you take that hammer to it. You might get by using that same four pounder if it's polished and well greased first.
However, congrats on getting it out.
Thanks for your help, lj. I will definitely do some detail work on the stem and steerer tube when it comes time for reassembly.
