Not sure how I feel about this issue. Kind of tough on kids to be branded with strange names, but government censure of your ability to name you child?

I don't see anything wrong with it. They are not saying the parents can't use the name, at least as I understand it. They just can't spell (?) them with numerals.

The parents should go with IV-sure, and IV-real. I have much more of a problem with the government saying they can't name them Hitler or Satan.

Their computer systems probably can't handle it or something. Drop the l33t-speak and call the kid Forreal. Problem solved.

There are a lot of funny names out there, at least to my ears. When my wife was a ped. resident she had a patient whose mother could not decide on a name. After 3 days and about to be discharged, she pressed the mom to name the child. She looked to the sky as if asking for guidance from above and said Nosmo. Nosmo? Yes, Nosmo. Nosmo King. Thank god that sign was in the right place at the right time. True story.

"But when the parents filed the name with New Zealand's Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, they were told names beginning with a number were against the rules."

So, having a number elsewhere in the name is ok? I could name my kid da-gr8est, or waiting4godot, or babylon5?

I think Sweden's government has the right to veto a baby's name... I heard one couple wanted to name their daughter Metallica, and they got vetoed.

I have friends in England (Matt and Angie Hopkins) who refer to each other as M@ and &g in text messages and such.

Or "Steve".Far too edgy and extreme. You want this kid to get beat up every day?
