Southern California - Online route planner...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Didn't Google Maps or Yahoo Maps or MapQuest have a route planning feature where you could draw your route and it would tell you how many miles it was?
Where is that?
Thanks!

Between Bikely.com and routeslip.com, I can often find the route I'm looking for already mapped out by someone.
is there one that gives you an elevation feature?

Microsoft Virtual Maps (http://maps.live.com/) allows you to route/draw lines and email it or save it (it under collection).
You can try site that design for routes like http://www.bikely.com/ ,
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ and other (Google it)
Both of the ones I mentioned.
well fine then! :p

www.toporoute.com is simple auto route but their elevation is lacking total climbing ft.

They also have limit on the length of a ride it can report.
My current process is usually enter it on toporoute... then export/import the GPX into bikely.

Another one I didn't see mentioned above, lets you save routes and even has basic training-log if that's your thing.

The "follow roads" option is pretty sweet, if a bit buggy.
GPS download as well, though no upload that I can see. :(
Edit: Apparently they've added it. Though you have to be running a windows machine w/ a .NET framework and download their upload tool. No love for us Mac users.

routeslip.com is the best one I have used, but it has too many glitches. I love the fact that it can generate a turn-by-turn route slip if the creator designated turns. I would gladly pay an annual fee if the site owner would make it into a business and hire some people or company to keep it working right.

yah I use it for rough sketching routes since it's auto mapped rather then every since point has to be drawn. If I like the route length, I'll make a bikely out of it.
