...was all I had time to call out as the Kamikaze rider approached from out of the sun. How I missed them I don't know. What really surprised me was that they were on a decent MTB and were dressed in cycling clothes - not the usual "casual rider" I normally see riding wrong way.

If you are out there, please ride WITH traffic - you are definitely not safer riding against it, and neither am I.

Yours unscathed,

Ed

How very dare you be concerned about your own safety! Mind your own business!

There, that should please the folks who think that cyclists should ride any old which way they please, safety be damned.

Feel free to print this out and staple it to any wrong way JAB you encounter.

:roflmao: "JAB" It had to happen sooner or later!

Staple, huh? I will be sorely tempted to paste the next WWC JAB I meet.

The physics of: me 185lbs, 25mph --> <---Them 100 lbs 12 mph still is not really in their favour.

It really wouldn't work for them if it was me coming at them.

Had a tri bike come at me going the wrong direction on a race. I was like wtf 32$@#$@$ as I just before was head down sweating blood. I guess she dropped something and wanted to get it before someone else did.
She at least should have gotten to her far most right, not mine.

What about bike path on the wrong side of the road (opposite direction)...I wonder who's the ****** that took that decision

I've already seen this twice this year, on my evening rides. The scenario: Suburban mom is riding on the road, against traffic. (No helmet, a sort of confused, I-really-don't-want-to-be-here look) The kiddies are riding on the sidewalk, which is permitted outside of a business district in MA. (unless regulated by local ordinance)

Mom looks up at approaching cyclist, (me) riding with traffic. Shock, surprise, you know.

I used to casually motion to the other side of the road and say "other side", but I've stopped doing this. It never seemed to help.

Funny this thread should pop up to the top today, because last evening I was out and passed a whole family on bikes going the wrong way. Little kid leading the (wrong!) way, father coming up next, another little kid, and then the mother with one last kid on a trail-a-bike behind the mom. All on good-quality bikes. Everyone kitted up properly with helmets and such. Everyone merrily going along on the wrong side of the road.

The only time I ever say anything though, is when my son's friend rides with us. I have to keep reminding the kid to stay on the right. It's funny, and somewhat dismaying, how "ride against traffic" is so ingrained in the general population.

Even better, I've been yelled at for riding on the right side of the road. Apparently the yeller believed strongly enough that I should ride against traffic that she had to voice an opinion. Same scenario, riding a WalMart bike, no helmet, in jeans, with kids on the sidewalk. She told me that I should ride on the other side of the road!!! I told her that she should, and to go home and look it up. I doubt she did though.
