Velocity Deep V's for cross?

Anyone run 'em for cross (racing)? Seems like they'd be good, but not sure.

Why or why not?

i'm about 140-145 lbs.

My LBS has convinced me to go with Reynolds Solitudes. I weight what you weigh. Maybe -5lbs. I see a lot of Velocity wheels here too, though.

Why would you want to make your wheels 300 grams heavier than necessary?

Good rim by all means, but heavy

my cross bike is my all around bike (commuting, light trail use, etc.) and i love deep v's for that application. if i were building a race-specific wheelset i'd go lighter. and i'm ~15 lbs heavier than you are.

At your weight, you can probably ride whatever rim you want. Find something lighter.

The Vs are nearly 2000g -- about the same as Mavic Equipes. The Solitudes are ~1500g and less than $400. I could shave a couple hundred more grams by spending four figures, but that seems silly to me.

I thought I read somewhere that Velocity Deep V were made for CX.

Don't know how true that is, but they are really strong

Deep-V rims are pretty narrow. How big of a tire can you put on them?

Seems like the bottom line would be yes, you can use them, but I don't know why you would want to. I have a set of Vs laced to ultegra hubs that I use as a general ride around town wheel. They are sinfully heavy and roll every bit as heavy as the look and feel. Get something lighter.

got it. i wasn't really aware of the weight...but thought they might be good because of their aero/mud/sand cutting properties.

hell if you can muscle the weight then why not? but like everyone else said, there might be cheaper better alternatives.
