I am currently planning a cycling trip for 10+ people to Florida over Christmas vacation. Could anyone make a suggestion of a great town/place to ride at?
Gainesville/Ocala is nice as there is a lot of beautiful countryside around there with lakes/springs etc .The weather will be a little cooler than the southern part of the state I did a tour up to the Gainesville area last Thanksgiving and the highs were in the 70's but during one abnormal cold front the lows got down to the mid 30's(I found it invigorating as I live in So.Fl.).For a more touristy but warmer area try the Keys though scenic the riding is pretty much limited to route 1 the main route or around Key West.Another choice Try the Sebring/Lake Placid area inland like Gainesville with lots of surrounding countryside farther south than Gainesville and small town atmosphere with lots of lakes and backroads. One other idea is the Jupiter area with some nice surrounding areas to ride not as much as Gainesville or Sebring but it is warmer ,on the ocean with a resorty but small town feel sort of a good comprimize all around vacation.

I reccommend the Florida Panhandle - Pensacola to Panama City. You have many choice rides. The Pensacola Beach loop - To Fort Pickens to Navarre is a 60 mile loop ride. The Gulf is on one side and the indland waterway is on the other - both are visible for 80% of the ride. 50% is though the National seashore with no commerical development. There is a another ride from San Destin along 30A through Seaside, also along the Gulf Coast. Winter tempertatures can be cool and the wind always blows! You will need long tights.
Contact the West Florida Wheelmen and Dragon Sports (both have web sites)for additional information.

If you do Gainesville, take a short trip south to the Ocala area. It has rolling country roads with numerous horse farms for scenery.
