Foo - RC Cars anyone?

A while back (late 90's, early 2000's, don't know when exactly) I loved RC's and bought a Tamiya Baja Champ chassis and body and built it from scratch. It never really worked all that well though, and I ended up getting frustrated and because I was young, it just sat in the closet. I dug it out about a week ago and had a friend work on it for me and get it running, and I must say I'm hooked again.

The thing is a rocket, I don't know much about it but I know it's plenty fast for me. I was missing my remote (Old Hi-Tec Lynx) and my radio was fried so my buddy put in some Tamiya radio and is letting me borrow his controller for a bit. At the moment the tyres are bald as can and it's missing a hex from the front wheel so it must sit as a 2wd but it's still a blast. Although I don't know how much longer it will last, I run it pretty damn hard. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with RC18's or any other 1/18 scale cars, and if they're strong enough to jump like this (the quarter pipe in my yard):

I worked at a hobby shop in high school where most of or business was R/C cars and planes. I've done both. Cars are fun. I built a Team Associated B3 and it was lots of fun, but then I moved to small electric planes and never looked back.

stick to 1/8 scale and they can take more abuse and still not be expensive to fix. I just sold my cars...ofna bmw, kyosho inferno tr15, and a kyosho inferno mp6...that one did 50mph in 4 wheel drive and could easily jump over 50 feet tumble then land on all 4's and take off.

There's actually an indoor RC car track here in town.

This one does around that speed maybe a bit less. I was just wondering about 1/18 scale cars because my friend has one and swears by it, I was just looking for other opinions.

there ok...not quite as exciting. My friend had 4 of them we used to race them around a track in his back yard. the bigger cars were more exciting to run without doubt.

I used to be into it. I raced my RC-10 worlds quite a bit. I'd ride across town with the car in my backpack, race (lose, mostly) and then pack it all up and ride home. This was probably between '93 and '95. I still have a Tamiya touring car and a Tamiya Bruiser in storage somewhere.

Just about anything sold now can take beatings with that ramp, that aint' nothing. I would go bigger than 1/18 because if your bashing them a bit, your bound to break something and IMO 1/18 is harder to work on than a normal rc. It is cheaper to make them go fast [mamba brushless] but if you want speed you could always go nitro. The Traxxas Stampede takes a good beating without complaing too much.

I have a 2nd generation T-Maxx powered by a o.s .18 cvrx and it is pure fun.

Been there, done that, never got excited about anything but racing and couldn't afford to be competitive. I haven't touched a car in years. I fly though.
