Tandem Cycling - 55 or larger chainrings for Ultegra?

Hello all,

I find that we spin about 15% slower on our tandem, thus I am wishing for taller gearing. Even with an 11T on the rear (and std 53 on front) we get spun out easily on our group rides (when we are rippin' on the down hills).

Where is a good source for a 55 or even larger chainring for Ultegra 9 spd 130 bcd cranks?

Anyone have a good used one they don't use and want to sell?

Thanks,

CJS

I use FSA rings... I currently have a 55-42 rings installed. They are time trial-triathalon rings... Shimano has some avalable also. If your middle ring is a 39 it will also need to be changed [these new shift systems are fussy on sizes].

We have a set of FSA rings (130 bcd, 55-44-32) we're not using & will sell. We'll sell all 3 as a set or any individually. Email me if you are interested: sk8erbyker at gmail dot com.

Our tallest gear is a 54/11. We have pedaled over 45 mph on a downhill. How fast do you want to go?

Tuck in and coast . . . done 53 mph that way.
In the 'old days' with freewheels, have spun out a 56 x 14.

Faster, FASTER!!!!!

We've gone 56 tuck and coast... down hill and with a 25mph tail wind! hum almost enough for a speeding ticket!

I recommend to look at www.gebhardt.cz
130/5 up to 70 teeth will do!
I'm realy satisfied with the quality: I use it for years.
The don't however sell to individuals so you probably have to find an agent in your country.
Good luck. (Hope you have excellent brakes!)

sk8erbyker hooked me up with a triple set up... now a 55x11 should be plenty on the top end!
