Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - IRO group buy aesthetics question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
so i got the threadless in matte black. im thinking:
white oury's on black risers and black stem
black seatpost with white sella italia slr
silver cranks (anodized cranks are stupidly easy to scratch and f up imo)
maybe those mks's with black sides and white double straps
kind of an all black and white theme, but now i dont know what to do with the wheels.
white deep v's laced to those dura-ace hubs with the black composite material in them and silver spokes?
all black spokes/hubs/tires with white deep Vs?
any other wheel suggestions? (yeah this is sort of if price were no object, i have a 1 percent chance of actually buying dura ace hubs)

White deep v's with black spokes and hubs.
Kinda like this (imagine black spokes/hubs) but without the horrible MOT H logo.

Do white rims stay clean looking?

since my normal rims don't stay clean looking, i'm going to go with:
"if you clean them."

Does anything white on a bike that gets ridden stay clean looking?
i've never actually had anything white on a bike so this will be first. maybe ill keep my black slr

here's how i'm doing mine... flat black threadless.
silver components
+nitto ct-80 stem
+sugino rd crankset
+formulas laced to mavic cxp
+cheap seatpost
+nitto rb-018 bullhorns
+tektro brake caliper
my mechanic, really awesome dude, is gonna de-brand the seatpost and brake caliper for me. he's been ridiculously helpful on this build.
then i'll have some black stuff
+dia compe dirty harry brake lever
+brooks b-17
i'm probably gonna go green bartape.
(since i listed every other part here i'll add my aesthetic gearing in too: 46x16 fixed / 46x18 freewheel... dura ace cogs and lockring.)

i'm planning on doing the same thing -- black with silver components and green bartape. i'll have drops, clipless and i'm looking for a green seat though.

Now I'm thinking I should have gone with black.

is this the seat you mean?

i'd like something with more green -- and preferably non-leather. i've never ridden on a brooks but i hear wonderful things.

Flat Black
Black/black/black wheels(machined)
Bblack RD2 cranks
Black Moustache bars.
So far.
I' thinking just touches of silver.
+1 on the black spokes, black hubs, white rims. Spoke nipples: color for looks, brass for strength. Not sure.

blue threadless frame,
sliver cranks, silver handpolished ring, silver chain, silver handpolished stem w/ black faceplate (looks mad)
anodised silver velocity rims (laser etched logo, no crappy stickers) fusion 28 3X to rear, 28 radial front.
Lookin for cinelli criteriums/b125AAs, gonna have white bar tape. Black road bars for most other times.
american classic post with white and silver Arione
Haven't decided on tyres
eggbeaters
Goin for a more classy look. God damn anodising is annoying to get rid of. This'll be raced, even though it will probably spend most of its time as a street bike.

+1 i had a wheelset like that. it was, as the bmx riders in my LBS said when they saw them, "tits"

I'll suggest my road wheel build on here, just cause it looks cool,
black anodised velocity aeroheads (NOS, good find), black DT competition spokes, red alloy nipples and that dark-metal colour of the Dura Ace hub. Looks insane.

green threaded
cinelli stem
soma major taylor bars
campag record headset
cane creek volos track wheels
conti podium tubulars
brooks b17 honey
eggbeaters
sidi dominators
gonna go cloth tape and shellac
wasn't originally planning on doing the cane creek wheels and tubbies but I got a pretty good deal on them so I went with it, might still end up going with a more classic silver wheelset, we shall see. Still don't know what crankset/bb I'm gonna do. Want to use an old campag aerostyle post like maybe http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=300122213742&rd=1&rd=1this, or perhaps a supertype post? I dunno

Green threadless, here. I'm going with silver components. I almost went black w/black, but I'm tired of that look, personally.

Any ideas what colored rims would look good with the blue frames? Orange, red, pink, blue? Couldnt tell if the pics he posted were of the green or the blue. much easier to match colors on my san jose. Guess i could just wait and try building up a set after i have the frame and miche hubs!

what do they mean when they say threadless?
freeskihp
06-23-07, 09:51 PM
the stem, threaded(old school/quill), threadless(newschool/modern)
your raleigh=threaded
your orbea=threadless
ollyisk
06-23-07, 09:51 PM
threadless forks just don't have threads for a nut on top.
your 1976 raleigh super grand prix would be threaded, and your orbea would be threadless.

Damn. I thought I was gonna be so cool with my all black wheels, but it looks like that's the new cool thing on here.
I bought the blue frame and my whole drivetrain is going to be black:
Wheels (black Open Pros, spokes, brass nipples, unbranded Formula hubs)
cog and lockring
RD2 Messengers with a black Shimano chainring
even a black PC-1 chain. Then, the seatpost and saddle, and the stem, brake levers (Tektro aero), and bars (my LBS cut me a deal on some Easton aluminium anatomic drops) are black. The bar tape will probably be white and blue Stella Azzurra Eleganza.
Damn. Now I'm all excited to put it together! Too bad there are still like three weeks until I'll get the frame.
Ordered a blue frame, threadless, but might powdercoat it white. It's going to be a slow build— bought several parts in advance, but then I found a nice frame at the coop and all the parts ended up on that.
So i think I'll build the iro up with fat slicks (35s or larger if i can find them), Miche cranks or used 75s, probably with 28h Miche hubs. I'll probably run the stock fork until I find a good deal on a carbon one.

I can't decide on what I'm going to do with my green 62cm IRO;
option 1
brown Brooks saddle
Soma Major Taylors
Thomson stem + post(silver)
Miche gruppo
IRD Cadence Rims(silver)
Campagnolo Athena Monoplaner front brake
option 2
Selle San Marco Regal Ti saddle(white)
Nitto RB-021 bars(white tape)
Thomson stem + post(silver)
Miche gruppo
DT Swiss 1.2 rims(silver) or white Deep V's
Campagnolo Athena Monoplaner front brake
Which one would you rather own?
