General Cycling Discussion - Chain Hitting Frame on Jumps

Hi,
What I would really like to fix on my Trek 4100, or maybe a problem with all bikes is that when I go off the curb or do something that shocks the rear part of the bycycle the chain hits lower back end of the frame. There are marks of where it hits and I feel if I could prevent that damage it would be great. What would you recommend to remedy that problem?

I was thinking of wrapping that part of the frame with electrical tape?

The noise of when the chain hits makes me feel uneasy.

Pick up a Lizard skins for something like 5 to 10 bucks at your LBS or online. If you don't want to spend the cash, you could use an old innertube, or even your electrical tape idea. I assume you've got an aluminum framed bike. Even so, you could throw some clear nail polish over the deeper scratches that are already on the chainstay to seal them over and stop an oxidization, etc, from occurring before covering the area. Problem solved.

Yup, I have an aluminum frame. So this is a common problem correct?

It's a commone problem on a lot of frames. MTBer's and riders who jump, etc. are the riders who deal with it most often. Everyone I ride with currently uses a Lizard Skin or something like it.
