Great Lakes - Coming to Vilas Cty. (Wisconsin) in a week, ideas?

Hi,
I grew up in Wisconsin (Green Lake County) but now live on the east coast. I'm coming to Vilas County over the 4th of July to be with family, I'll be staying outside of Conover. I remember the last time I was there I saw a fair amount of road bicyclists (the cottage is near Highway K & S) so my wife and I will bring our shoes and pedals and try to get some miles in. A few questions:
1. Any suggested routes? I'm somewhat familiar with the area but and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
2. Any suggestions for bicycle rental places? I imagine Eagle River has something, specific recommendations would be appreciated!
3. Anyone know of group rides in the area?
4. I'm probably more interested in the road, but are their decent off-road trails? I could bring my mountain shoes as well.
Thanks so much, can't wait to be breathing that lake country air again soon,
Bob

Some ideas are the bearskin trail from tomahawk to Minocqua which I have ridden. it's nice, gravel, off highway, kinda short 40 mi RTrip, need a state trail pass. here is another item http://www.st-germain.com/biking.htm
There has to be plenty of MT biking up in the North woods, check with the bike shops.
Also check the WI DNR website and some of the county web sites for info. Good luck, have fun, bring bug spray.

I will be in Rhinelander for the forth of July week. I usually bike every morning. I am leaning towards the road bike this year. I took the mountain bike the last couple of years and the trails are great, but I need to get in some miles.
I use the county maps from the DOT for road routes.

The bikes and boards web site has some of the mountain bike trails

We used to spend a week every summer just west of Conover on Lake Buckatabon. Take K over to Star Lake and then to Boulder Junction for a really great ride - some nice hills, great scenery, not much traffic, smooth surfaces, and on a hot day the tree canopy helps keep you out of the sun. I've also taken K over to Phelps. Take a copy of the Vilas county map and explore. I think you'll find most any road you take around there will be worthwhile. There's a nice little bar not far west from where you're at on the north side that I"m for forgetting the name of. Man, I miss Vilas County!!

How could you forget the Burnt Bridge? Very familiar with Buckatabon - great lake. Thanks for the advice, I'll check out Star Lake & Boulder Junction. I wish I rode seriously when I used to spend a lot of time up there when I was younger.
Thanks again Bill!
