Road Cycling - Lemond

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Alright I am a all out mountain biker considering the road. That being said I know both sides of the industry and I want to start off with a nice steel. And what do you know, LeMond, afforadable good steel.
Any general impressions?

Many of us have Lemond's, and I have never heard nor read a complaint about them.
I have a Buenos Aires - about 7,000 miles on it, and I love it dearly.
They are known to have a little longer top tube, which if greta for guys like me with a long torso and shorter legs.
Great bike, IMHO.

Hey,
Actually i'm in the same predicament, but what i'm really curious ish whats a good steel framed bike at about the 1K pricepoint for someone with a short torso and long legs. Today i went to the LBS and got measured and they said look for a 53 or 54 cm with about a 54 top tube. The LeMonds seem nice but i dont really know what else is out there?

I ride a 2002 Fuji Marseille, which I managed to pick up for $999.99 USD after some patience and shopping around. Unbeatable value for the specification I got (853, carbon fork, Ultegra all around). Much much nicer than my old 1997 Trek 1400. Everyone here will tell you to see a professional, test-ride to fit, and be patient when shopping to maximise the value of your dollar.

A guy that I was on a group ride with was talking to another person and said, "Ahh, I see you have a Lemond too, I guess the value of this neighborhood just went up!" So you could always say that if you got a Lemond.
Recently sold my 03 Allez Sport and bought a LeMond Zurich. Can't tell you what a good move this was. Have over 700mi on the Zurich in one month, including a Metric Century. Noticed that the LeMond riders in the century really notice others on LMs - great feeling.

I agree with what the others have said Lemonds are great bikes. I've owned a Buenos Aires and now have a Nevada City. At some point in time I'll own a Zurich and who knows what others :)

It's strange--Lemonds are supposed to be for the guys with long torsos and short legs-- but I have a 2001 Buenos Aires, and I'm a female with short torso, long legs and especially long femurs. What they did was put me on a size smaller--53 instead of a 55 which is what I ride in a Bianchi steel. It's worked out well, no real adjustments except for 1 cm shorter 0 degree stem. It also means a lighter bike than I would have had with a 55.
One thing I don't like is the clearcoat finish--watch out you don't get careless like I did and scratch some of it off hanging it on storage racks etc. But it's a real smooth ride.

I'm looking for a good steel bike also and the lemond is high on my list, what do you guys think about Mercier, Bianchi, Fuji or KHS? Those are a few that I'm looking at mostly only there steel models.
Thanks mike

I've been looking at the Maillot Jaune also and I was wondering about the level of craftmanship on these frames. I'm sure they're not hand-built, so what is the quality of construction? Is it TIG welded or brazed?
