Okay, okay - this is a Bike forum (the BikeForums?), but I really feel I need to post this.

I've worked my way up to averaging 120+ miles a week for the last 4 weeks. Now, I'm trapped in a hotel without my bike for about 10 days. It has a gym, but only a recumbant (sp?) which I hate. I'm really, really worried about keeping my legs in shape so I can jump right back on when I get home and not loose much.

Anyway, I thought I'd try the treadmill. Now, the longest distance I've ever ran in one stretch was one mile when I was 18 and on the track team (I was a thrower, and I really one did this once.) Anyway, set the incline to 1 degreee, walked .25 mile and then cranked the speed up to 4.7 and began to jog. Not fast, but I wasn't walking. After another .25 mile, I thought - what the hell? I ended up running 2 miles in about 25 minutes and it felt really good!!! There is no way, no way in hell, that I could have done this without the bike.

I've mentally toyed with the idea of trying a sprint triathalon, but this might just be the motivation I need to stop thinking and start really training.

Go for it! A Tri might just be your cup of tea! By the way, a big surprise, wasn't it?:p

While on the subject, this little children's story took place last year:

See Neil.

See Neil get in his Neilmobile and drive to work.

See Neil fume as construction crews and tree trimmers cause traffic
jams.

See Neil fret about getting to work late.

See Neil park the Neilmobile at his work.

See Neil hurry to get into work.

See Neil break into a run to get to his office.

See Neil reach his office.

See Neil realize that for the first time in a decade, he can RUN!

See Neil running in the hallways to show his coworkers that he can run.

See Neil's coworkers ask him to stop running in the hallways.....

When I travelled I looked around and tried to find bike shops that I could rent a bike from. Some of the rentals were fiascos and others were new bikes that I put lots of miles on. I have also gone to the local Veteran's of America ,Goodwill, or other second hand stores and bought bikes to use while I was there and then gave them back as a donation and a tax write off for me. Now these were $50 to $100 bikes and not what I would normally ride, but they worked out for me.

If you're lucky, you might just find a gem or two in there, as well. If you happen to pass by a thrift shop, you might as well take a look, eh?

Congratulations on the improvement :) . Perhaps indeed time to step it up a notch?

Thats what I do on business trips. I pack some running shoes and shorts, ask the hosts where a good place to jog is and go for it. Its great and it really helps me sleep (I don't sleep well in a foreign bed).
