"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - USA Cycling Development Camp Report (June 17 - June 22)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We did a few tests over the week: An ITT, an uphill ITT, and a TTT. The ITT was 11.5k and we did it twice to test repeatability. We'd do 2 loops of a windy 3.6mi course with I'd guess a 100ft hill and a couple of other smaller risers. I scored the best time in the ITT, and my second effort wasn't much slower. The uphill TT was 1k and we did it 3 times, again to test repeatability. I scored the best time in it as well, and my repeatability was also good. For the TTT, we were divided into teams of 5 according to our times in the ITT, so I was put on the fast team and we made short work of all the others.
Lots of paceline and handling work, spent a little time on the T-town velodrome (and I'm thinking I may be hooked), sports psychology, etc. Learned a lot, met some cool people, hopefully made an impression, had a fun time.

this is cycling. people with talent normally are incapable of reading, let alone reading and replying to email. :D

KP, did I see you today at owasco? there were tons of windham folk, I saw a particularly lanky one pull out of the pack with what I thought was a flat. If that was you, that sucks, it was a really fun race.

You the man KP. Here's hoping you get noticed and shuffled into a real development program.
Will you take the shot if you get it?

Yes, that was me. On the upside, there was a great view of the lake from where I flatted. On the downside, I spent about 20 minutes waiting for the SAG wagon.

At that point I was about 15th wheel. On the second real hill I tried a futile brige to our friend the canadian TT machine. All I accomplished was to blow myself up and end up in the stranded in between the 1st group and some chasers the rest of the race. Good times!
btw, congrats on the camp. I went to one of those and did no conquering, some of them kids are fast, it decidedly means something to be the fastest kid there.
Was it at kutztown again this year? Wierd place that.

Yea, as soon as we reeled him in he went right back off the front. I was pretty pissed off at the TT guy until I talked to him afterwards...he's a cat1 and was using the flyer for long TT practice. Aero gear or not, its still pretty impressive that he avg'd something like 26mph+ solo for that long on that course.
The camp was at Kutztown again. I'm not sure what to make of it...a college town in the middle of amish country.
