Hi,

I had my first blowout today. Rear tire at around 19mph. Managed to bring it to a relatively safe and quick stop. The tire has a nice whole in it and clearly needs replacing but what about the wheel? Given my weight (220lbs) should I get the wheel checked out at the LBS? There's no obvious damage, it's still true and the spokes all have tension (there's no way I'd be able to detect a slight change but they all "ping" similarly).

Thoughts and advice much appreciated.

Tom

you're probably fine, but if it makes you sleep better at night, go ahead and take it in. i've had unfortunate rear flats that i rode on for a mile or so back to work and one i slowly nursed for 4-5 miles dead flat on my beater bike until i could buy a patch kit (always have one with me now). each rear rim shows no damage or change in performance. i'm 175 and these were on aluminum clinchers.

have fun,
aaron

If the rear wheel is still true and round, and especially since the spokes have consistent tension, then you're probably fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

I had to do rim-work after this crazy puncture (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=298618).
