Vive le Difference (or something like that!!)

Have been riding the mountain bike (the one with the rack, two panniers, and enough tools and equipment to overhaul a truck) for the last ten days on our trip.

Today, hopped on the Lemond road bike for a quick 21 miles.

WOW!!

I FLEW

WOW AGAIN.

Yes, the bike truly makes a difference. Same engine, different chassis.

But actually it is a different engine. It has been subjected to a heavier and less efficient load for a while and is now stronger. Thus when you got on that sleek machine with low resistance you hammered.

Good work!

Okay.

Looks the same to me though:)

One of the reasons I keep the mtn bike heavy is exactly your point.

Significantly, Denver had been riding the mountain bike near sea level, and now he is back up in his normal high-altitude habitat. Thus, the difference between the bikes is even greater than noted here.
