My Lemond steel has developed an unidentifiable creak in the front end, only when I'm standing on the pedals and placing more weight on the bars. It seems to be associated with lateral motion. I can't recreate the noise at rest or on the work stand. The bars are tight in the stem, and the threadless headset seems tight enough.

Any suggestions? Wheel? Headset too tight? Fork?

Right now I'm at a loss

Trying cleaning the dropouts.

I just went through a not so amusing game of find the creek. After dissassembling the crank and bottom bracket twice, I cleaned the rear wheel drop outs and the creek went away. It's something that I never thought made much of a differnce and it's worth a try...

I have a bento box that was attached tightly. It was actually causing creaking, no idea how or why. When I took it off (randomly) the creaking went away. I put it back on looser, and still no creaking. Bizarre.
