June-ish is always my busy time for riding. There are three local centuries and the AIDS/LifeCycle San Francisco to Los Angeles ride.
Over the memorial day weekend, I ride the Indian Valley Century (Greenville, CA) as the last tune up before AIDS/LifeCycle. It's actually 102 miles and one of the most beautiful rides anywhere. This year, several (12) members of our bike club all started together, plus my buddy, whom I had convinced to do A/LC came down to do it (his first century). The ride is mostly flat, except for that pesky 11 mile climb in the middle. I really felt good on the ride.
On June 3rd, I left the Cow Palace in SF (actually Daly City) for the 7-day Aids/LifeCycle, my third time. 2333 riders raised $11 million! Each of us must raise at least $2500. I raised $6000 this year. I won't try to describe each day of the ride, suffice it to say it is an absolute kick in the pants. The best way to do a multi-day ride. SF to Santa Cruz to King City to Paso Robles to Santa Maria to Lompoc to Ventura to LA. One 105 mile day, 2 90+. Here are a couple of pictures:

Most of the riding is done on back roads, a little Highway 1.

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/tomfrady/148Quadbuster.jpg On Day 3, we climb "Quadbuster". It's 1.3 miles at about 8 - 10%. Too much for many riders. It's easier than many of our hills here in Plumas County.

Here we are after 570 miles, not much the worse for wear. I think I have convince two more to go with us next year.
Once back home, I climbed our local 3.5 mile 15% hill. Then a 109 mile century just a week after ALC. And just got back from the third Century of the month.
I feel good about all this. I am not a fast rider, no a great climber, but I seem to be able to do distance without much trouble and recover quickly. I'm ahead of schedule to ride 6000 miles this year for the third year in a row.
It's good to be retired.
