i have a trek 7000 (7 speed) in need of a new rear derailer. i'm still using the STX that came with it. my question is whether i can install an 8 speed derailer and if so, what would people recommend? LX? thanks. note: i recently replaced the rest of the drivetrain (chain, cassette, crank). thanks.

An LX rear der. would be a great upgrade. It is quite a bit cheaper than the XT and it performs nearly the same - it just weighs a little more.
