Bicycle Mechanics - Shimano cogset with Campy drivetrain?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I picked up a used Campy Vento wheelset with what I thought was a Campy freehub . . .thought it would go nicely with my 10spd Veloce-equipped bike. Discovered it has a Shimano freehub!

Can I change the freehub? Can I use a Shimano 10spd cassette? Craigslist?

Jenson USA has the shimano changeover for that wheel but for some reason not the campy one, but they must be available. At $80 and up they're not free.

I'd try to find the proper freehub body for the wheels. If you can't do that, you can use one of those travel-agent-like things that converts cable-pull so you can use a Shimano cassette with Campy drivetrain. The name escapes me right now, but I'm sure someone else on this thread will think of it.

Jtek's Shiftmates (www.jtekengineering.com) will make almost any mix of Shimano/Campy components work together very nicely. I have one on a bike with Campy 10-speed Ergo brifters and a Shimano 9-speed cassette and rear derailleur. Shifting is perfect.

One advantage you have is that Shimano 10-speed cassettes are much less expensive than Campy's so the $35 for the Shiftmate gets made up very quickly.

you might wantto check wheels manufacturing in colorado

they have an inexpensive spacer conversion kit to use shimano freehubs with campy components...I have the 8-9 speed one, works perfect

maybe they have a 10 speed one

Yup, that's what I was thinking of.
