If you are wondering Alex Birdy rims are 36 and 24 hole. 32 hole hubs seem to be cheaper on ebay. My birdy has a 36 hole hub laced to a 24 hole rim. I was considering a Campagnolo hub.

use 3 holes and skip the 4th on each side of the flange. Don't know why this wouldn't work but you will have a little extra to do in calculating spoke length. Is this one of the patterns Sheldon has in his article on wheelbuilding? It rings a bell.

vpiuva gave you the right advice, but I'll also add a question of why you want to go to this trouble? I'd say just get the right stuff, since you're already doing the eBay thing.

C'mon, this is ********. You don't have hubs, you don't have rims and you want to go out and buy mismatched parts on purpose? To save $3? Not clever.

Birdy has 18" rims which as far as I can tell are only sold at:

Spend the $19.00 and get the 36 hole rims from them.

It is not actually the rim that is the problem. 32 hole hubs seem cheaper on ebay.

Yes, it is. You're current rim only has 24 holes... That's a problem.

Trying to lace a missmatch is a fools errand. Yeah you CAN do it, but why would you want to? Building a standard cross 3 wheel is difficult enough, and you want to complicate it? This dosen't make sense.

EDIT: The sweeteness of a cheap price is forgotten long after the bitterness of (fill in blank) remains.
