:lol: I watched less than one skit tonight before changing the channel. It was really weak.

At best, when I remember, I only tune in for the intro, to see who's being impersonated.

I can remember a time when always remembered to tune in. It really quit being funny in the early 80's. That first crew was just something together. Everyone who followed has only been trying to better those years. Impossible....

They had a white lady playing Condoleeza Rice...not funny at all.

Give me reruns of the old Saturday Night Live and I watch it. The new I watched part of one and that has been so long ago, I forget when it was.

I've noticed it's become basically a copy of MadTV, which I was never a fan of.

And they seem to be producing their skits by wrote method ("this worked 10 years ago, lets force it on this actor's personality and rehash this scenario/plot"). I don't sense any originality or personal creativity. Could you imagine Christopher Walken or Phil Hartman in with the kids doing SNL these days? They'd stick out like sore thumbs. Even Adam Sandler and Tim Meadows blow the socks off the current crew.

I think I can sum it up in a misquoted phrase from the Joker about Batman:

SNL needs to start from ground zero. I have not watched it in ages, nor do I know any of the names of the recent actors who are on there.

Here is my idea that would get SNL going again, possibly: Hold a public audition in a number of places (heck, maybe spin it off as a show in SNL's timeslot) to find new skits and actors. This should be able to scoop enough new blood and ideas for 2-3 years. Then, when the skits start getting moldy-oldy, do it again.

SNL has been dying for years, and I can't imagine why the network has not killed it. Ode to the killer bees, to dueling Joe Cockers, samuri sandwich guys, gumbi, and the ignorant ****.

Yeah, got home from dinner at Dell Stator's Toad Ranch, fired up the Bass-O-Matic and made a round of largemouth smoothies and grabbed my Mainway Toys Johnny Switchblade Adventure Punk toy and settled in to watch me some SNL. Have to agree this new stuff does not measure up to teh old show.

What are you guys talking about? SNL has always been better than MadTV, which often justs reverts to gross-our, gore, over-the-top antics, or slapstick to pull laughs out of a poorly written sketch. And if you think about it, that's mostly what earlier SNL was. The bass-o-matic was a gross-out sketch with Dan Akroyd with an over-the-top sales pitch voice. Ho hum.

I still think my favorite is the Will Farrel Harry Caray impressions. That and Celebrity Jeopardy.

IMHO SNL went down the tubes when the original cast were all gone. It was still barely OK for some of the time of the 2nd cast but not after that. We've tried to watch a couple of times recently but I just can't take it.

Here's an honest question:

How many that long for the classic SNL only remember the classically 'good' and famous sketches that are lauded and worshipped, without remembering the many flops that the originals also produced?

Sure, some of the newer SNL sketches are hit'n'miss, but I don't think there were many cast members with the depth and talent of Darrell Hammond or Will Farrell. Each generation has it's amazing characters, and each new generation is doubted until (all of a sudden, it seems) people recognized how great it is...which is normally just after they bring in an entirely new crew.

Gotta agree that SNL was funnier when I was in high school (graduated in '85). Funny sh** 'dat! The question is if today's high schoolers like SNL at all or will in a few years once reruns and nostalgia kick in.
