The day started off perfect. It was a little cold for standing around but great for racing. When we got to the race I had a whole team of people and didn't have to do anything. My parents and husband started grabbing things out of the car and all I had to do was walk down to the transition area. I took my stuff from the family and went in to set up. It was a little confusing at first but once I found my bike rack I looked around and took note of how everyone else set up. My set up turned out to be perfect.
So for the swim, which is my best part of the event, I started out in the back because I was unsure of how it would turn out. I decided my next race I am starting in front. I spent a lot of energy avoiding getting kicked and trying to swim around people. But as I started to pass the men from the wave before us I felt good.
Found that going from swimming to biking was hard. I got out of the water and had a hard time keeping my balance but my family said that I didn't look like I was falling over so that was good. The biking was harder then I thought it would be. I was tired from the swim. I think I need to learn to kick less in the swim portion. My legs were tired and I was thinking I can't believe I have to run after this. But I didn't fall which is an accomplishment for me. As a beginner at biking (road biking about 4 weeks now) I have discovered that I have a lot to learn and I need to build my confidence.
When it was time for running I spent a lot of time convincing myself I could run just a little bit further. Just to that tree, then to the water station, then to the bridge and so on. I did walk about 100 yards and then decided everyone else was running I should suck it up and go. So I did. I felt great crossing that finish line. It was amazing:D and I can't wait to see how the next tri goes now that I have a better idea on what I am going to feel and how it all works.
So here are my results for my first sprint tri:
18th out of 46 in my class
407 out of 708 over all
Swim: 21:34
T1: 2:41
Bike: 56:13
T2: 2.42
Run: 30:08
